DIY Power Steering removal loop for free!
 

Yep you heard right... I've been searching for a DIY on this and a few people have mentioned it but no real info on 'how'

Most people just take the easy way but more expensive and purchase a kit from Gotham for like $45 with shipping. I didn't want to spend another $45 if I could just make one without having to round up a bunch of fittings. Now one thing is you will have to cut your existing lines so there is no going back to P/S without buying new/used hoses. Since there really is no resale value on a PS system I went ahead and cut mine up (PS pump is untouched).

First remove the PS pump and cooler loop up front. Now take a hack saw or sawzall and cut off the banjo fitting shown in the pic below:

Now do the same with the other fitting like the below picture:

Next you will have to cut off a section of the rubber hose that routed back to the PS pump reservoir. It already has a 90deg bend so it will not kink. Just connect the two fittings with this hose and clamp with hose clamps or the stock clamps. I used the stock clamp for the banjo fitting but had to use a hose clamp on the other since the diameter of the hose is slightly larger. See the pics below:

Now install and go splurge on something else for your FD since you just saved $45 and didn't have to wait for parts!

why wouldnt you just do what ive written extensively on and take out the rack plug the line holes and cut off the rack bearing? thus removing all of the hard lines completely?

You can just plug those, it's the fittings on the outer tube of the rack that need looping, so that the piston contained within isn't trying to pump fluid into a confined space, effectively locking the steering.

A better way of doing it is to take the rack apart and cut that piston off and weld up the pinion shaft for less effort and more precision.
