DIY Intercooler Sprayer
I live in miami, damn heat soaking the intercooler sucks! So ive been searching around the forum for heatsoak and keep finding the h20 injectio (which I don't like, I tremble at the thought of hydrolock) then I see n2o and co2 spraying on the outside of the intercooler and think its a great idea. Has anyone built up their own kit? I ave never worked with these gases so i don't know AT ALL what is needed. Can anyone tell me the parts I need to build one? Thanks.

I'm about to finish mine...but I was thinking of spraying h2o and maybe some alcohol.
Parts: Nozzle 3178K87 - Standard Mist Nozzle $5.56 from mc master carr Check valve - from the seq turbo system silicon hose - hose technique (left over from hose job) Barb fitting for the larger diameter hose to smaller dia. (so the nozzle could fit in the hose. fuel line clamp - to mount it reservoir - from an FD that had a rear wiper momentary push button switch and some wire and terminals... BTW, the amount of water you are spraying in will not hyrdolock your engine.

Hydrolock? LOL.
I had large 7.X gph nozzle on my car in the beginning. I had an error in my setup. I was driving home and the pressure switch touched the metal hood and it completed the circuit. Not knowing this was happening (You cant hear the pump), Im driving and 25 minutes later I decided to look at my intake temps which were 15C on a 100F day. I realized then that the water was running. I turned the system off. My car bogged a little, but other than that had no issues. I think you would have to pump alot of water in your car to hydrolock it, and it would have to get into your engine when the car is turned off. Not likely. spraying the outside of the IC will do almost nothing. With water injection I run around with ambient temps consistently (It turns on when I boost). good luck! |
it takes a heck of alot of water to hydrolock. I cannot imagine how big the water pump would need to be to supply enough water to do that.

Rally cars have been using the system for years with no issues, but to me it is just scary:eek:

That big ass wing on the STi does nothing to enhance performance yet they put it on.

I used :
Two DIG fogger nozzles pointed at IC .5 gph Hobbes Boost pressure switch set at about 4 psi (They're adjustable just remove the plug on the back). Check valve and pressure tank to make the sprayer "lag" Another DIG fogger nozzle to bleed down "lagging" pressure Stock windshield spray motor and reservoir Keeps stock IC temps down to 130 F or so max. Fan mod will fix heat soak. |

No, you'll lower your IC temps by 80 F or more. A minute or 2, how much longer do you boost on the street ? But it is about the same amount of work, i just didn't want to drill my manifold.

No but they will go to 200 F on an 80 F day, and the sprayer will lower them to 120 F. Even the water temp doesn't matter much. Has something to do with the efficiency of water as a heat exchanger.
