Disgusting idle, wtf?

Alright well I just recently had a short in my wiring on my B1 fuse. This short was fixed, however, ever since I reattached the harness and put everything back together, the car runs like absolute crap. The idle is low, around 500, and my vacuum on my avcr is showing -264 or so. Every time I open the throttle at all, I get a serious backfire, over and over again. But my wideband is showing like, 13-14s or so. Now the B1 fuse controls the coils, condessor, and the igniter. Is there a way to test to see if all these items are still good? Or any other ideas???

daily drivers down, bumpity

There are procedures in the FSM for checking the coils and ignitor.

Any way to test the igniter without buying the tester from mazda?

Start with the coils. In all the years I've been on this forum, I've only seen one problem directly related to the ignitor.

I'm not sure what the b1 fuse attaches to, but if you had a short in the wiring, is it possible there might be a problem with the ecu? Sometimes when there's a surge it can mess up the ecu, possibly causing the crappy idle.

NoMorePoison 05-21-07 05:44 PM

Would that reflect at all on my PFC? Someone else suggested that to me here in town that it would be my ecu, but everything else is running just fine....

tiger18 05-21-07 09:00 PM

have you tried pulling any ECU codes?

NoMorePoison 05-21-07 09:35 PM

apexi ecu, not sure if it even gives codes haha

Well I checked the coils. Indeed the leading was all sorts of messed up, but heres the kicker. I replaced the coil with a TII coil, wired it all up right and whatnot. Got to turn on the car, and almost immediately after it turns on, blue smoke starts rising from the exhaust side of the motor?! WTF?!?!

Do you have an ignition amp? The stock ignitor is not strong enough for a TII coil. Did the smoke continue or did it lighten up as if its just burning off some extra fuel?

NoMorePoison 05-22-07 03:35 PM

I honestly didnt want to run it long enough to see if it was going to let up. And I was unaware that the tII coil was to much, but I can get an ignition amp quickly. Any chance that would fix this problem? And should an FC1000 be enough?

I don't know if it will fix that exact problem, but you will need an ignition amp if you plan to keep the TII coil on the car.

It just sounds like its not running on all plugs. I just remember having a wire not fully attached after a plug change once and it was very similar in sound.... But it also sounds like when my map sensor vacuum line wasnt attached.... You thinking maybe blown motor at this point? haha

NoMorePoison 05-23-07 03:10 PM

Alright, well after installing the FC1000 the car is running!! Only problem is that in this process I found about 5 vacuum leaks so now my idle is totally messed up. Also, when Im in full boost (1.15 bar) my A/frs are through the roof!!! As in 10.1-10.5!!!

Is the PFC tuned for your car?

NoMorePoison 05-23-07 03:28 PM

Well it used to be yes, Ive had about three tuning sessions on this car. But that was before finding the vacuum leaks. Oh and my tps was frighteningly attached to the car (exposed wires everywhere!!!) I truly hate the previous owner of this car haha

GoodfellaFD3S 05-23-07 11:48 PM

1.15? Are you still running the stock 2 bar map sensor? If so, you're maxing out the boost reading the power fc will give you-----17 psi, 18 psi, 19 psi etc will all show up as simply '1.15.'

If you're running the stock map sensor, I suggest you turn the boost down, you're playing with fire.

NoMorePoison 05-24-07 02:35 AM

Really? Im sure Ive seen higher on my AVCR? Maybe Im wrong, but indeed, I am playing with fire if thats the case
