I had this pointed out to me yesterday. Is this not just a stock unit....... I dont really know much about this so i need help. Still dont know if the pinion etc is ok.

not good, sounds like the worm gears are stripped. Your options are Cusco(hi dolla), Mazdaspeed(hi dolla 2), Kaaz(cheaper but still expensive, I have one) loud and untamed, or 2nd gen viscous diff from the GTU I believe, do a search, you'll find something. Good luck

If you go with the TII diff, you don't want the viscous one, you want the clutch type. If you go that route, you want a 87-88 TII LSD. They are supposed to be almost as strong as the Kaaz. I just picked one up, but have yet to install it so I don't have any first hand experience.

sorry, I knew it was for a 2nd gen, just didn't remember which one. Wished I had known the 2nd gen diff woulda fit before I blew $900 for the kaaz 5 years ago.

Not sounding all to hot really. Gonna have to assume the whole thing is dead i think. Major expense..... Tried to get the inspection cover off tonight but one of the top bolts is a no no.
Looks like im gonna have to go back to a stock one again and uprate the lsd when i can afford it.

Damn.

Next fun job is gonna be removing it with only axle stands grrrrr..

TeamChin Aug 16, 2005 03:11 PM

go with the TII...you can pob. get one even cheaper than the stock torsion...

sdminus Aug 16, 2005 04:18 PM

I need it to handle a 11sec 1/4 . do think it will hold up

Yes the clutch style turbo II diif will hold up, hell my stock torsen diff. lasted for 3 10 sec passes with 1.60 60fts.

sdminus Aug 17, 2005 12:24 PM

The prob i have with the turbo 2 diff is i cant find any. Do i just need th lsd from it or will the whole lump bolt up
I think i must have damaged the unit when i crack the fly wheel the month before.

Does anybody know where i can get one from
