Differential Fill Plug dilemma

I'm trying to unscrew the differential's Fill nut, which appears to be 23mm... only problem is, the rear subframe is directly in front of it and there's no space to get a ratchet or even the socket in there

I can't use a normal spanner wrench either because the stupid thing is recessed

How did you guys get it off?

I used a socket with an extension on it and had the ratchet on the opposite side of the frame. No problem what so ever. It makes sense when you look at it.

I'm not sure if I can fit an extension through the subframe since the solid bottom piece of it is directly in front of the fill plug on mine, maybe there is a way I'll take a look again thanks :)

24MM, use a wrench.

IRPerformance 12-17-08 10:56 PM

You should be able to get the box end of a wrench over it.

GoodfellaFD3S 12-18-08 02:06 PM

It tends to be on there VERY tight, so be prepared to put some elbow grease into it :)

Ohh and forgot to mention you don't want your face to be under it or else you won't be tasting your food for quite some time.

If you let the suspension droop or jack up under the diff, will it help with clearance with the subframe?

Time for you to enroll at http://edu-career.org/wyotech/?&affi...code=p57771401.

The diff doesn't move much. Its a very straight forward job. You might just be approaching it wrong or using the wrong tools.

Did mine earlier today - Ir's deffo 23mm (contrary to what a lot of people say!) - I used a small extension on a socket and hung off a breaker bar - it shifted when i hung in it with all of my 9 stone.

Took a lot of doing bearing in mind it's only supposed to be done to about 40NM...

don't forget to replace the aluminum crush washers, it will leak if you re-use them more than a few times

same goes for the trans
