differences between usdm vs jdm

I tried using the search feature but for some reason nothing I'm typing in is coming up, but yea, like the title says, are there any key differences between a usdm 93-95 vs a jdm 93-95? aside from the RHD drive? I'd like to think the JDM version has less reliability issues compared to USDM, but i think that's just wishful thinking...thanks in advance. and don't flame me cuz i'm admitting right now i'm pretty noob.

Just the amount of emission controls. The US version had a few additional components added for emission purposes which the JDM versions didn't require.

All the info/warning stickers are in Japanese

The japanese version has rear seats

But in Japan the RX-7 came in a lot of difference versions, so its not fair to compare

but it's the same power output and same engine...same reliability issues...right?

Not for the same production years. i.e. the turbos are the same on all 93-95 cars from the factory.

Do USDM rx-7 have an EGR valve? Well, JDM don't :lol2:

and they come with rear seats. The Type X rX-7 is pretty sweet, comes with sunroof, leather, airbag and fog lights.:icon_tup:

That's part of the emissions controls I spoke about above.

JDM RX7 & USA RX7

How did they manage to have the same power output if the UDSM model was so restricted from the factory(smog pump, precat, etc)

Mostly likely the US model was just a little less than advertised power like the RX-8. The only real restriction was the pre-cat so it probably wasn't a large difference in power.

Right but the newer like 99-01 had different turbos right?

Yes. But the question in the thread was US vs JDM of the same years (93-95). ;)

spaceman_spiff Sep 21, 2007 03:13 PM

and removing the pre-cat in favor of a straight downpipe...that's illegal in the US no?

SLOASFK Sep 21, 2007 03:15 PM

illegal if you live in an emissions controlled area, but most mechanics wouldn't know the difference and it could save your engine.
