Difference Between Replacing and Rebuilding Engine

This might be a dumb question, but I still need to know the difference:D
And please tell me which one's better and why.

Well I guess replacing can still be done with a rebuilt engine if you really think about it. Remans are still rebuilds...a totally new engine..housings,rotors, seals, springs etc etc would be a diffenent case and can be quite expensive...rebuilding kinda means you migh reuse things such as housings and rotors if they are still good.

Sounds like replacing the engine is better? Because everything will be new.

Dr Wankel Jan 16, 2002 09:47 PM

What he was trying to say is even if you "replace" the engine and while it may be a different block than your old one it is still going to contain old parts that have been reused. Most of the time when you rebuild or have someone rebuild the motor they will go through it and replace only the parts that are out of spec. In most cases the major parts, I.E. rotors, rotor housings, e-saft and such are reused. While the apex seals, and other seals are replaced. So to answer your original question if you are "replacing" your motor chances are good that you are putting in a "rebuilt" motor.

how much for a street port? I'd like to make it a 12 second car.

Dr Wankel Jan 17, 2002 12:54 AM

You don't need a street port to run 12's. It will help but its not needed. Get an intake, exhaust, and a boost controller. Run 12 PSI and there you go.

what's a street port? going to rebuild the engine soon... how does it drive after you have it?

mightyslash Jan 18, 2002 09:07 PM

With a street port, you can go a lot faster

A street port is an enlargement of the intake and the exhaust ports. By making the ports bigger it will allow the motor to get larger ammounts of air into and out of it. Thus increasing the potential for power.
