Difference between an R1 and a normal FD?
 

i have an R1 but im not quite sure whats so special about it? Whats the difference between that and the touring model?

Stiffer springs
dual oil coolers
fancy smancy plastic front lip
front strut tower bar
no leather
no sunroof

i might be missing something, but that's about it as far as i can think right now. someone else might chime in with something i missed.

and:
suede seats instead of cloth or leather
rear spoiler
no Bose
manual tranny only
I think that's about it.

No rear wiper
No fog lights
No cruise
Along with no BOSE, it should have rear speakers and all black interior. No tan panels etc.

i have no fance front lip and i have a sunroof

If it's a factory sunroof, you don't have an R1. Probably a Touring. I only say 'probably', because this site suggests that an R1 could have been special ordered that way. But I don't think they really exist.

do you have the bose system?

The dealer who sold it to me showed me the VIN number and it corresponded to the R1 red FD. I hvaen o bose and no wiper in the back. also i have no back cover i dont know if that means anything. and whats BEP?

also i have no cruise control, chrome wheels not aloy and the suspntion is VERY stiff. only driver airbag and i have the strut brace

what year is it? Does it have a rear wing. And id there a oil cooler on both sides of the radiator? In the other holes of the bumper.

didnt base models have a sunroof option? i was under the impression they did

The roof could be added at the dealership if I remember correctly.

You sure the R1 didn't have a rear wiper? I've seen several that do have it, and I just bought a hatch from an R1 that has the rear wiper as well.

You can check the coolant level on both sides of the engine...so i guess tha t means i have a dual oil cooler right? Either way its fast as hell!

Yeah R1's don't have a rear wiper..


IDK the guy starting this thread isn't too bright.. but I think he has a bastardized R1. No cruise control is only found on the R1... and he has a 93 if he only has a drivers side air bag.

All other versions of the FD had cruise control except R1's and R2's.



Hey DDagman post pics of the car interior and engine bay so we can figure this one out. Also get a pic of the front end so we can see both oil coolers.

And a final note.. learn how to search, you've started so many threads asking questions you could have figured out yourself just by doing a simple search.

DDagman, can you post a photo of the stickers on the door sills? They give more information as to the options on the car.

The sticker on an R1 should list a Hard suspension and different seats, possibly a different Body Type of Model-Spec.
