Difference between 93 RX7 & 94 RX7
LIST the Difference between 93 RX7 & 94 RX7
|
There were about 2 dozen running changes during the 93 model year production that are all included in the 94-95, but the most noticable changes were to the interior, the 93 "colored" (Red & Tan) interior used colored door skins, headliner, rear panel, and bins in addition to the seats w/ Black carpet, Starting in 94 the "colored" interiors only had colored seats and carpet with all the other panels staying black. The RED interior was dropped as an option during 94. in 94 a GLASS sunroof panel was also offered as an option. 94 marked the introduction of CHASTE WHITE as a color option and the discontuance of the CYM color.
The 94 Tach and Speedo have simplified markings with fewer minor tic marks ( this may have been a mid 94 change as I have seen some cars that claim to be 94's with the old style instruments) check Beyond The Redline site (http://beyondtheredline.fd3s.net/) it has a good model overview in the 3rd gen history section. ps SEARCH this has been discussed many times before! |
that site isn't working for some reason,
Also in 1994 the biggest safey difference is the addition of a passenger airbag. Also there are only R2s in 94-95. Also i belive there were only 2 recalls for 94-95 vs. many more for 93. Danny |
what about performance and reliability ?
|
The same, the engine and everything related was untouched. (Somebody correct my if I am wrong)

Originally posted by NickSimcheck The same, the engine and everything related was untouched. (Somebody correct my if I am wrong) actually, there were a few changes in the engine bay between '93 and '94 - different EGR, different ECU, something to do with the cooling system (the '93 recall should have fixed that, though)... couple other things (I used to know them all when I gave two craps about it). as far as performance and reliability, there's zero performance change by year, and only slight difference in reliability - so little that age will play a bigger factor in reliability that the changes (assuming all the recals have been taken care of). however, there was a decent amount of interior work done on the '94 '95 - less rattles, less squeaks, the dash doesn't peel, less busy gauges, etc. edit: I just came across this - figured it would be a good time to post it: 1. 94-95 Instrument cluster is different due to the fact of having no small indication lines between numbers 2. 94-95 Have smaller rear swaybars. 3. 94-95 Have different dash panels in the way that they're not painted and won't peel like the 93's 4. 94-95 Have 2 additional braces under the rear subframe to minimize the rear subframe from flexing under load(Mostly to try and prevent axle hop) 5. 94-95 Have dual airbags. 6. The EGR system on the 94-95 is different. 7. The 93's were the only ones that came with chrome colored intake manifold nuts. 8. The 93's intake elbow on the throttle body was grey colored, not black like the 94-95. 9. Touring didn't exist in 95 it was replaced by the PEP package, even though the PEP package was introduced earlier in 94. 10. Only Tourings came with glass sunroofs. 11. Only 93 offered a CYM(Competition Yellow Mica) on R1 models 12. There was no white RX7 in 93, only 94-95. 13. R1 and R2's only came in Yellow, Red, Black, and Silver. 14. 95 RX7's used R134 A/C refrigerant, not R12 like the 93-94. 15. 95 RX7's also used a lighter ABS system than the 93-94. That's all I can think of right now that some people don't know about if I think of anything else I'll let you guys know. |
so you guys are saying that 94 models are better than 93 in almost everyway . and also that they are more reliable than 93 models?
which one would you go for 93 w/ 55k miles or 94 with 72kmiles ? lets say both are stock. |

is it possible to put dual airbags in a 1993 rx 7? maybe from take it from a 1994-1995 model?
|
which one would you go for 93 w/ 55k miles or 94 with 72kmiles ? lets say both are stock. A 94 is better b/c it blue books higher. Most FD3S imported into the USA were 93 models. Danny |
the suspension in the model year 93 is stiffer than later models. gives harsher ride and more precise stock handling.
|
You guys left out 1 important thing:
The rear subframes on the 94-on models have 2 extra connection points to the body, this makes for a more rigid rear subframe(it seems as Mazda put it there to stop the rear subframe from flexing foward and aft, of where it's positioned, I think this was also done to try and prevent wheel hop during acceleration by making the rear subframe stiffer), if you look under a 93 and a 94 model you'll see the difference. |
well if you had a choice of 94 base and 93 base ...which one would you go for.... of course 94 base right?
|
the dash on the 94 is different from the 93, because of the passenger side airbag. also the climite controls are a little different... not the knobs themselves but the numbers/colors. The 93 also has a truck looking passenger side seat belt buckle.

you guys didn't read my post did you? ;)
4. 94-95 Have 2 additional braces under the rear subframe to minimize the rear subframe from flexing under load(Mostly to try and prevent axle hop) 5. 94-95 Have dual airbags. |
I purchased a lock mechanism & seloniod for the drivers side door from mazda recycling. I said "1994" Rx7. They sent me one from a 93. Some genious at Mazda decided to change the electrical wiring (the lock looked the same). The wires all had different colors and the Connector is a different type. They refunded my money and stuff but it was a pain in the ass. 93's outnumber the 94's and 95's so most used parts are 93's. I guess most of the time the parts are the same.

In 1994 the red inter was not droped ,I understand that they made 20 silver with red inter ,Garfinkle has the only one I have ever seen ,but I do not get around much

oops, forgot to give you my opinion....DEFINATELY go with the lower mileage car!!!!!
|
Another difference I've found is the taillights. The 93s have a darker tint then the 94. You'd probably never notice unless your car is like mine, a 94 with the right side replaced by what must be a 93 part!

Oh yea...
the power window switch on the 93's dont have a auto-down function like on 94/95. The 93's don't have a map pocket on both seats (so I hear). |
