Diff question (FD)

I have some rotational play in my diff and wondered if this is normal.

The companion flange can be rotated back and forward around 6mm before the drive shafts engage.

There is no play in or out, just when rotated left and right.

The flange nut is tight.

Thanks
Gary

Normal. It called backlash.

Backlash is normal and actually required for proper operation, however 6mm seems excessive, even if measured at the companion flange.

If you're so inclined, I suggest removing the rear cover and checking the backlash per the Mazda manual. Page M-40. You can download it from https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-gen-archives-73/tech-manual-directory-614824/
