Did the thermoswitch mod - have question
 

I put in the FC thermoswitch for fans in place of the FD switch. Seems to keep a little cooler, so I think it is a good mod. The new part I got from Malloy is a 97 temp, not a 95 as some posted earlier, or at least it says 97 on the side.

I just noticed after driving through town that the fans are running after key off. Can someone tell me why? It hasn't done that before and today is 80 F outside. Does this mean the fans were on for more than 2 minutes under normal driving? The gauge, which has been modded, was normal which i know is below 220F.

Has anyone noticed a signifincant behavior difference after this mod?

That's normal. The fan recall module monitors that switch - if it's on for more than 2 minutes (ie, over 97 deg. C) it will then run the fans for 10 minutes after you shut off the car.

I'd get a water temp gauge pronto - you're running the car pretty hot if it's sitting at that temp for so long.

I wonder if there is something marginal in your cooling system (thermostat, partially blocked radiator, etc.). I did the Miata switch (same effect as the FC switch), and the fans come on if I'm sitting in traffic, but never for more than a minute or so at a time. I also had the cooling recall done, but the fans have never come on after I shut down. However, I also put in a DP at the same time I did the Miata switch, so the engine compartment is a bit cooler than stock.

I don't recall the exact temp but if the coolant temp is at some certain temp or higher when the car is shutoff than the recall module will run the radiator fans for 10 minutes. My car does it on occasion but only when it's very hot outside and I've been driving slowly through town with the a/c on.

I think that helps. After the switch, I let it cycle before I drove it and the fans would come on enough to cool it and then back off again. It never ran more than two minutes. In this case, I stopped for about 30 minutes after driving. I was waiting in line at the drive through, so the fans had been coming on.

After 30 minutes of key off, I drove through town again and hit every light. Maybe a 3 minute drive. This time at key off the fans stayed on.

Is it possible that the heat soak combined with city stopping caused the fans to run longer? Can air still in the system do this?
