Diagnostic Box, Do I Need it?
I'm in the middle of doing a partial wire tuck and I am wondering if I need the diagnostic box. The reason I ask is that without that box I can remove a lot of wires from the harness and save myself a lot of soldering. If anyone has pros and cons of deleting it I'm happy to hear them.
Thanks Ryan |
Anyone? Its not a huge deal for me to keep it but for simplicity sake I would like it gone if possible.

Um... if you have the OEM ECU (PCME), the diagnostics can be quite useful; see this thread. If I understand correctly, the PFC does not support the Diagnostic Connector... someone please correct me if it does!

It seems like I use the F/P pin to run the fuel pump every time that I have the UIM off. I'm sure that there are easier ways to do this though.
The only other pin that I've used is one that sets the idle air control solenoid to a constant PWM setting so that the idle air screw can be set properly. I don't think that this works with anything but the stock ECU though. |
Thanks guys. If that's the case and it doesn't work with aftermarket ECUs then there is no point in keeping it on my car. The only thing I would be able to use it for now would probably be fuel pump and IAC so I can really just keep those wires if I want. Ill wait to confirm the ECU thing before I cut it out though.

The F/P (fuel pump) wire is ECU independent. I can confirm that it works with the factory, PFC and Adaptronic select ECUs.
