Dephased headlight - extremely annoying *video*
 

I'm having a dephased headlight. I tried changing the little $20 rod from Mazda, without success. Is there an adjustment?

I changed the left rod. When I loosen the right rod on the picture, it won't budge. I guess I'll try it again tomorrow.

Sorry guys I think I shouldn't have posted a thread for this, a simple search helped a lot... I hope.

There are smarter guys than me at this stuff, but I have done a bunch of headlight work so here goes. It is possible the arm and lever are misaligned.

Click on the attached headlight diagram and you'll see all of the parts detailed. The long arm you replaced is 51-SA5 and it attaches to the motor control arm, or the short one in the right of the pic. The two arms "click" together or are held by a nylon snap assembly (the two arms snap together and you can use flat head screwdriver to pop them apart). This connection should move pretty easily and this might be binding or causing the arm to not fully deploy. Have you put some oil in the nylon assembly? This might free it up.

It is also possible, when you put the two arms back on the motor, you did not put them back into the proper position. The short arm attaches to the motor where it has a series of teeth that allow you to position the short arm correctly on the motor. It then bolts back into place. If you are off a gear or two in the position, this could cause what is happening to you.

That's what I come up with. Hope it helps.

ok you need to un-attach the rod, then press the button to make the headlight motor work so the motor moves to the light up position. then re-attach the rod.
I believe your rod is just attached part-way through the motors travel movement. when it should be attached when its at either extreme of its movement..hope that makes sence..

unattach the lever. Press headlight up button, manually raise headlight to up position, re-attach rod.

edit; usually you would just un-clip the arm off at the ball joint and not remove the actual arm that's attached to the actuator.. it may be slightly trickier to get it back into its proper orientation since it looks like you unscrewed the whole arm.

so you need to unattach it at the joint circled below;

Work headlight motor to "up" orientation.
Reattach the short arm back onto the actuator in the correct position (match it with the working side).
Manually raise headlight up using the spinny thing.
Reattach the other part of the rod.
now you should be good
