Delete fuel pulsation damper - any negatives?

I've done some searching and can't find any conclusive opinions on the long term effects of completely removing the fuel pulsation damper. I'm refering to this link at Banzai racing where they show how to delete the FPD completely.

http://www.banzai-racing.com/pd_elimination_how-to.htm

It's time to replace mine or delete it. Not sure which way to go. Sure I'd love to save the money but if deleting it not good than I won't. At the end of the banzai write-up they mention an aeromotive fuel pressure regulator however they do not mention installing one anywhere else in the write-up. My fuel system is stock and will remain so unless a regulator is required for this mod. I don't think Banzai was specific in that you had to also install a regulator. Maybe it's assumed or implied but I did not get that.

If anybody has pros and cons I'd love to hear them.

search in the 2nd gen technical section. there is more than enough debate there. The FC pulsation dampener is the most prone to leaking and on series 4 it is threaded in there and can be replaced easily.

I would like to know this as well

How about running an aftermarket FPR with a built in damper with the correct fuel rail adapters instead of tapping the rail.. check this out

We have never seen any adverse effects on any cars that have been running without the FPD for 8-9 years, even with the rest of the system stock.

We added the note about the Aeromotive FPR so that people running aftermarket fuel systems would know they can remove the OEM FPD as well.

I like Garfinkle's stuff, but how is packaging with that kit if the OP is still running the sequential system? Especially with the aftermarket FPR it seems like there would be no room.

Chris would you recommend putting some RTV around the barb? I'm wondering if the teflon tape won't start leaking after a while.

thanks

You can buy an adapter for it to mount to the UIM, also some people mount it back on the firewall I think.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably go the delete route just as shown by Banzai.

It's encouraging to hear that they have not had any issues. Does anybody know what fuel system components the FPD was designed to protect? I'm just curious what Mazda felt needed to be protected from fuel pressure fluctuations.

That's very true. This is where the car owner will have to get creative. I made a FPR mounting bracket for a friend that mounts right on the firewall where the map sensor is located. Too bad I didn't take pictures for show and tell, it has an offset and it looked pretty clean. I was think of making more but I got lazy..
