Dawes Controller Assistance
 
Since the SEARCH FUNCTION SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN DISABLED, the best I could do was the archived data.

I installed the controller according to Rob Robinette's diagram, so I know it's in the correct location. The archived thread never came to a consensus on whether or not the line from the wastegate control solenoid to the wastegate actuator should be disconnected. I think I do, but here's what it does.

VERY slow boost building, and same spike as before. If the normal control of the wastegate was going on and the dawes unit, I think this could cause low boost build and still give me spikes. I've adjusted the thing, and taken the ball out and re-adjusted as suggested elsewhere, didn't help.

So should I disconnect the second line, cap the nipple and put a screw in the hose??

if you have that line from the WG to the WG actuator disconnected it can have a needle valve venting to air in the actuator's place, having it completely shut will build boost verrrry slowly if at all I've found. I have mine adjusted so it vents very little to where I get the response that I want, and then adjust the dawes to the level of boost that you want. The vent from the WG should not be fully open though or boost will go too high

I apologize, I'm a little confused. The line from the WG to the WG actuator is a metal rod correct? Looking more closely at Rob's diagram, I realized that air is supposed to flow out of the WG actuator and through the WG control solenoid. This would mean the WG Csolenoid controls boost by releasing pressure and not by applying it, as I had it in my head before this. So that in order to allow the Dawes controller to work correctly, I should cap the line from the WG actuator to the solenoid, and the excess pressure that is coming from the line the Dawes device uses is vented out the small hole drilled in the case of the device. This way the solenoid will not be interfering with where I set the Dawes. Does this sound correct to you?

I realize you suggest a needle valve set up, but I'd like to see if this seems reasonable, I'd like to keep it as simple as possible. Thank ya for your help~

Can someone clarify the installation of the dawes device to me? I understand that the device is connected between the turbo outlet nipple and the actuator inlet, but what happens to the actuator outlet, should it be plugged?

Well, I capped the outlet that the second line came from and plugged it (that is the stock vacuum control for wastegate). Now it definately holds boost precisely where I set it, but it builds boost way too slowly. I used 5.6mm hose from Napa cause it's the closest I can find. I'm going to check for leaks or loose fittings tomorrow and see if I can find something...
