My pleasure. The brake lights do not angle and are straight across on the front and the back. They are 1" deep.

I still want these..

ptrhahn 12-29-14 05:42 AM

I do too. But have no time/desire to do it myself. Seems like there's a market for paid conversions that aren't dopey looking light designs.

turboIIrotary 12-29-14 04:58 PM

If there is serious interest I can do it but the price won't be as cheap as theorie did it and it will use different components.

Thomas618 12-30-14 05:14 PM

PM me prices and your method?

Woudnt touch this for under $900 IMO. Its alot of work, and there is always the risk of messing up the customers tail lights in the process. (And then youd have to buy another set to replace the light you messed up)

Btw, my home mades detailed earlier in the thread are still going strong :)

Lazerus post

Is the linked led parts still currently the best options available? I have everything in my shopping carts now and wanted to doublecheck since it's been a few years since the original post.

I see they now have a few angel eye kits with more LEDs per rig than the one mentioned but not sure if these are necessarily better.

Link to ones I'm referring to:

Thanks for the detailed writeup as well.

David Hayes 05-05-17 03:56 PM

^ Yes, those will still work well. I have them installed on my car and 4 years later, running great and plenty bright. Might there be brighter options now available? Possibly but my quick search turns up nothing better.

Make sure you order the red leds versus white for reasons previously discussed. Also note I removed the load equalizers detailed in the thread in favor of the "Dale Clark CPU #2" mod. Nothing wrong with the resistors but the CPU mod is better.

PM me if you have questions.

Per request of members, I am reposting the LED templates:

No offense to David but I didn't find the templates that helpful, at least not the inner reflector part. Also make the pieces longer than the templates because if not there wont be enough material to have overlap to rivet together, at least in my experience.

For the reflector part i just did some math and figured made my own.

Wow the lights look great. I'm going to start ordering the parts and attempting this as well. Thanks again.

Came out nice! Did you also do the center brake light or are those dual intensity? I've thought about the newer cob style halos for this setup. Since they come diffused they probably wouldn't need to be mounted as deep to get a uniform solid ring. More expensive though.

Cob leds are really dim. There is someone who makes this ring style with them. I was contacted to make a new set for a couple of people that bought those as the brightness wasn't what they wanted and of course safety issue.

If you set them back they will look brighter and the sunlight wont wash them out. The prismatic lens can't do their job when the leds are that close.

Im sure im overthinking it but i'm lost on the Luxeonstar parts list and the Quantity of each item.
