Dash pot adjustment
Replaced my dash pot today & did a search afterwords in the archive section.
I noticed some confusion & questions, but wasn't able to directly answer that post https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-gen-archives-73/dashpot-uim-180123/ Anyway my dash pot was no longer fully extending so I purchased a new one. The p/n has be superseded with N350-20-190 & costs $71.50 through Mazda Motorsports The new dash pot has 6mm (1/4") of white rod exposed. If yours has less it's probably time to replace it. You can read all about what it does in the archived post listed above. Per the FSM pg F-134 Adjustment 1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temp. 2. Verify the fast idle cam separates. 3. Turn all electrical loads off. 4. They say to connect a remote tach to the IG connector, I had my wife read the tach in the car for me 5.Open the throttle until the dash pot rod separates from the lever. 6. Check the engine speed when the dash pot rod touches the lever. It should be 2600 to 3000 rpms. |
what are the symptoms of a bad dashpot? where exactly is it located? mine likes to idle at @1100rpm after i drive it warm fro a little while (750 fine for the first few miles), then i have to kick on the parking lights then turn them off to regain 750

The dash pot is located near the front side of the throttle body. When you release the throttle, the dash pot slows down the mechanism, so it doesn't close as abruptly. It's easy to inspect and adjust.
