Dash cluster-speedo swap

Hi all, wanted to ask a few questions about the dash cluster speedo swap (at the risk of being yelled at)....before I start/complete parts collection...
1. Is there anything else needed when swapping in a manual dash cluster into the automatic car? ie wiring harness?
2. Since I'd prefer to not place in a speedometer with higher mileage, can I replace the speedometer with mine so that the title doesn't show a mileage discrepancy?
3. I've heard that the stock auto cluster works with the 5-speed swap, just going to have the PRD2L etc lights on there...myth or fact?

I appreciate the help or the nod in the correct direction. Forgive me if I've stepped on the 'search' gurus toes.

Nevermind, researched and found out that it is possible to do it.

Nothing extra is needed. You may end up with a left over connector, I'm not sure.

yes, 4 screws in the back hold the circuit board/speedo on. A 5th screw holds a plastic cover over the connector where the soft circuit board meets the hard circuit board. Use a flat head screw driver to very carefully disengage the connector that holds the boards together.

fact, however the auto tach redlines at 7000 rather than 8000 on the manual tach. Your best bet, easiest, would be to keep the auto cluster and replace the tach with a manual one. Replacing the tach only involves 3 screws and no circuit board connections to screw up.

All the gauges, aside from the tach, are the same.

If you're interested I have 2 or 3 93 style manual tach gauge faces, since the mechanics of the tach are the same on manuals and autos (of the 92-98 style), you could simply swap the face and not have to pay $100+ for a tach. Of course this involves removing the needle, which can be risky as well.

Research THEN post, man. Research THEN post...

Thank you sir. It's very much appreciated. I think I couldn't find was the speedometer cable. If it plugs right in. So far haven't read anything in regards to hooking up an auto harness to a manual transmission for the auto dash speedometer. Trust me, have tried looking.

the speedo cable goes from the transmission to the ECU.

I'm 99.999% positive that the connectors and wiring harness are the same for both manual and auto clusters (as far as the gauge cluster is concerned). Seriously though, it'll be easier for you to just replace the tach in your auto cluster with one from a manual. While you're in there, you can remove the PRND12 light as well.

I'm assuming that the male end that goes into the transmission is the same?

That's a good question.... I have no clue on that one.

Called Ray Crowe at Mallory Mazda, they're different. I'll hook it up tomorrow and see if the plugs are the same...
