damaged my coolant hose while installing it, help
 

I am currently replacing the "Upper" turbo coolant hose, the one that attaches to the waterpump. Anyway, I was having a hard time getting it to fit right, and I damaged the hose, making it now useless. However, I do have a silicone vacuum hose I could use in place of the turbo coolant hose and It fits right. However, there are no Ply's(no threads) on the silicone hose just straight rubber inside/out. Is it ok to use the silicone vacuum hose from Hose Techniques to replace the turbo coolant hose along with the factory insulation? :scared:

I wouldn't do it. not even as a temporary fix.

No, it's not designed to take the pressure or heat of the cooling system. Buy a new OEM hose AND the OEM spring clamps for the hose. The new clamps come with clips that make installation a breeze.

Take the damaged hose to your local auto shop (Autozone, NAPA, whatever). Purchase some coolant hose of the same inner diameter, cut to size and install.

Ok the new Mazda colant hose that I bought, actually I didnt mess it up, but I cut it shorter so I could get it to fit, and it worked and it has new hose clamps too. I suppose this is better then using the silicone vacuum hose? The hose is slightly too short on the bottom half as you can see, but the clamp still covers the entire hose. would that be fine?

As long as the clamps are behind the rolled bead on the nipples, you'll be fine.

I actually moved the clamp even more just now, to where the clamp is behind the rolled bead, and the end of the hose stick out behind the clamp slightly, but i dont feel like taking another picture lol thanks. If I didnt ask for help I probably would have used the silicone.

...I don't know. I wouldn't take any changes if you are questioning it and you know the common phrase..."when it doubt..." Maybe for now or couple of days, it'll be okay. BUT I would find a replacement ASAP in the meantime. Just my .02 cents.

I used Goodyear transmission cooler line for mine, its identical to the mazda hoses, just not pre-bent, no issues. can get it at napa dirt cheap.

At first I was in doubt cause it was a little shorter then I wanted, but eventully I got hose clamp over the entire hose end, and now im 100% confident its fine, and plus this is an OEM coolant hose. This coolant hose right here in the picture is the ONLY reason why I started tearing everything down in the first place!! lol

If it was me...I would just get a whole new hose, I wouldn't take any chances with the coolant system on a rotary.

Wow, great informative thread Ernesto!!! Good thing you started a new thread for this!!! Now everyone will know what to do if they are dumb enough to screw up a simple hose installation.

Maybe you can help me?? One of my tires is low on air. HELP!!!!!! What do I do??? Should I start a new thread??? I'll try to take a picture later so that everyone will have a better idea of how to approach the problem. Everyone here is so knowledgeable. I hope someone will come to my rescue!!!! By the way, you didn't tell us how you ruined your hose. I'm curious :D. Surely it was due to a defective hose, not your total lack of competence !!! :rlaugh::rlaugh::rlaugh::rlaugh:

I agree with Adam...there is a LOT of worthless threads on here lately, a lot of them due to folks not searching for their answer or just plain ole silly question. Too lazy, too stupid, they want someone else to fix it for them - whatever.

I like Ernesto though......I mean with a name like that, you gotta love him.


Now, Ernesto you might want to get another OEM hose and install it right without screwing it up. Yea you got the oem clamps back on but think about it - that one hose is subjected to copious amounts of Turbo heat ( hence the heat covering ) and if it fails...OHLALALA....possible motor overheat. And if that happens, well you'll have to post another thread :)
