cut off mid drift?
does the fd3s have a cut off switch of some discription that cuts the engine if the car gets into a spin?
can go sideways fine but if i spun 360 the engine kept cutting out?? plenty of fuel in any ideas? cheers will |
stalling out because of loss of revs sounds like your problem, if you're running fine under normal conditions.

thats happened to me before. almost like the car powered down. but i think it was b/c i was feathering it. Ive been able to do all out spin with no problems.

ahh i was feathering the throttle so what you do differently?

i dont know.....like i said, sometimes it kinda boggs down (mid spin), most of the time it just spins like crazy though. i dont have an exact answer for you, i was just letting you know your not the only person that that has happened to.

sounds like you's are holding back put your foot to the floor abit more and you wont have dat problem!!!!...

Do you have at least 1/2 tank of gas, maybe more? If you are turning left and it cuts out, you are probably running into fuel starvation.

I ran into this problem at autocross.
Left hand turns with less than 1/2-2/3 tank lead to fuel starvation :( |

I dunno why someone told me that the 95's weren't good enough. dub, would you be able to confirm that ALL '95 tanks have that issue resolved?

That's a strange thing to say to someone?!?! Not good enough? IMO, the are the best looking ;)
I can only confirm what I've read on here...the 95 tanks have the same P/N as the 96+ tanks; which are the "upgraded" tanks. |

hey guys, I have just read this post and as far as i can gather you are saying that the 95+ models have a modified tank to stop this prob of fuel starvation on hard left hand turns, am I correct in saying that??
If so then I Have a 99 and have had this problem only on one occasion, swinging a left hand drift come donut lol and it just cut out, stopped, then started sweet and drove off thinking WTF !!! I had between 1/2 and 1/4 of a tank, |
It's possible that you were in that situation for a longer period of time.
The 93-94 tanks have crap baffling. This was addressed on the 95+ models. I don't know to what extent, but I know for track driving, many have said it fixes it, unless of course you're on a 1/8 tank, then you should be shot for driving in that condition anyway (pure racing excluded). I'm not aware of whether there was another redesign after that. Scrub, I assume you'll start up something else about that? I'd like to know more, especially with what I already have for my setup. |

i need a surge tank, as mine will cut out when doing donuts, i have a 96 rx7, its ok if you have over half a tank, but under that its no good

well, I guess maybe I'll step up my plans....... I don't think a fuel cooler would add much, if any performance. I mean how hot does the fuel get in the tank, under the rear of the car? I could probably incorporate something if there was interest.

Anything that lowers combustion temperatures in a PLUS in my book. The stock ECU took a fuel temp reading so I assume temps can get to the point where you retard timing (or inject more??)

I understand why to use a cooler, but I didn't understand why you'd want it at the back of the car.....like he said, the closer to the engine the better. But I think with your knowlege you could probably install a fuel cooler as easily as I could :)

There's a local guy that has a similar setup I think. In tank pump feeding a swirl tank in the hatch with another pump and -10 lines up. The thing was that you couldn't even touch it it was so hot. Probably not setup the right way and definitely not good to heat the fuel like that.

This was a very old thread to re-open, but since it was already opened there was the group buy on surge tank covers for the stock tank. The piece solves the problem in a very inexpensive and easy to install manner. No need for a swirl tank, I am not even sure what that is
