custom made RX-7 manuals? what do u think?

Hey everyone

this is just a feeler to see what people think and if i should do it or not

i have links and links and links to manuals for our cars and mk4 supras from USspec and even JDM. i also owned the actual green book from mazda and always seemed alittle puzzled reading it and looking things up and my pages always got dirty or crumbled, so what i did on my computer was, took all the manuals and how to's and i organized them according to topics, ( ie: electric, cooling, trans, ect ect ) what i was thinking, would you guys be interested if i printed them out, organized them in a hard back binder, and even going as far as laminating the pages ( incase they get dirty and longevity ) and offer them here on the forum? it would be easy to read, color ( optional ) laminated ( optional ) and cheaper than the actual manual since im the one whose putting them together. idk how much i would, i would have to go to kinkos and see how much they would charge me to print them and such.

let me know what you guys think? again this is just a feeler to see the response i get from people, hopefully a positive one lol

thanks everyone:cool:

that could come in handy, I hate running upstairs to look on the manual or print out a page it would be nice to have in the garage.

Toyotarx7 03-02-10 06:08 PM

sideo: if i made these would u want one? if i can get 5-10 people on board i'll put this thing together and display it for u guys to show you what u would be buying

Toyotarx7 03-02-10 06:09 PM

and with a mods approval of course

Gringo Grande 03-02-10 06:23 PM

I'd buy one before Mazda heard about this! PM me!

MOBEONER 03-02-10 07:12 PM

i will take one if the price is reasonable. And you will have to give me a ride in your 2jz FD. ;)

94touringFD 03-02-10 07:24 PM

I'd be interested to know what all would be included and what the price would be with the different options you were talking about, laminated and colored.

DaleClark 03-02-10 09:19 PM

You DO know you can buy a very nice shop manual from Mazda? That has everything in it?

And it's most likely copyrighted material?

Dale

Prometheus 03-02-10 09:53 PM

I'd be down for one if it came with a digital copy (for back up purposes)

Sideo 03-02-10 10:09 PM

i would be interested in buying one for sure if laminated. it would be nice not to worry about the pages getting dirty.

Toyotarx7 03-02-10 10:28 PM

ok guys, im going to to get a quote to see how much it would run me to make copies, laminated and in color. for people who want one, PM me if you are 100% sure you want one and i'll make a list as to how many i need. i will come up with a price and once i make one i will post pics for everyone to see.

thanks everyone

Toyotarx7 03-02-10 10:42 PM

as per the 2jz FD, i'll make an album and make a thread with lost of pics, car isnt done it but its coming along GREAT!!!

This IS most definitely copyrighted material so unless you wish to subject yourself to fines and or jail time I would not try to profit off of someone else’s (MAZDA) material. It is one thing to copy for personal use (somewhat of a gray area) but quite another top profit from it.

+ a whole lot

Prometheus 03-03-10 07:25 PM

The information is free, just charge some extra formthe laminating services.

:)

I think it's an awesome idea, but also see the point in the copyrighted material argument. If it was a collection of driver's/mechanics write ups or how-to's then it wouldnt be a problem but if you profited off of the mazda manual that would be jail time. Maybe call mazda and ask? lol.

Legality issues aside, I have a totally different question:
How thick would the laminated pages be? The OE manual (not including the electrical portion) is almost 2" thick as it is with VERY thin paper. I'd think a 6" thick manual would be impractical.

My thoughts exactly. Probably at least 2 feet thick.

Divide it among multiple binders.

Exactly.

The shop manual is going to be more accurate. It has a few errors, but wouldn't you rather trust the shop manual over someones write up on here? Write-ups should only be used to supplement the shop manual. It isn't that complicated and hard to follow, however the pictures aren't that great sometimes.

Personally I don't see the point in this with the materials all available as PDF files.

I simply print out the page I need and take them out to the garage.

Oil stained, writing all over them, lost? No problem, just print it out again if needed.

Fortune_Seven 03-05-10 01:28 AM

On the fence, let us know what you decide

Gringo Grande 03-05-10 05:21 PM

I just upload all my "backups" to Google Docs and access them with phone or laptop as needed.
