Curious

Hey guys

Am new to this forum but need some advice please!

I'm in the UK and am looking to get a 3rd gen rx-7 - but i'm a little worried about the fuel consumption!

I know fuel is cheaper in the states but exactly how thirsty is this car?? Just out of interest cos i really want to get one of these cars!

If you can point me in the direction of any uk sites that can help then i'd be grateful

Thanks!

I'm not sure of the liter/kilometer, but I get around 18/20 miles per gallon city/hwy driving, and around 14 mpg during spirited driving+regular city driving.
You may want to try a search on this.

It really depends how much you get on it or how fast you drive, how you have your car built, and if there is a lot of stop and go traffic.

I can say that with the mods I have, if I get on it I probably ony get about 10mi to the gallon. On ave. I would say I use a tank of gas every 5-7 days.

It also depends on if it is tuned or not. If you do some mods, install an aftermarket ECU, then its default maps are verrrrrry rich.

You'll get about 6-7 km/L during typical driving. This will go down to about 3-3.5 km/L on the track....:)

EDIT: BTW, if you are concerned about gas mileage, you shouldn't even be considering this car.

With my Re-Amemiya Redon ECU maped for 1.2 bar it used about 2 liters pr 10km on spirited driving on the streats. And it used about 5.4 liters pr 10km on the track. Wich is alot.

But i also got it to run at 1.1 liter pr 10km with no bost and not over 3000 rpm :)

Oh and fuel is expensive here, About 1.41 USD pr liter now.

That's about 5,35 USD pr gallon of fuel. That's 98 octan euro gasoline.

If you are concerned about fuel economy then this isn't the car for you. I have two vehicals, my FD and a F-250 Ford. The truck is my economy car.

Indeed, i shouldnt be worried about gas milage if im buying this car!!

Im not bothered to be perfectly honest, more curious. Didnt realise these rotaries drink so much fuel!!

But ive seen a few in the uk which are veeerrry nice - they all seem to be low milage 92' rx-7's...

Im gonna go and test drive a couple in the next few weeks and then get a loan!

Thanks for the help! ;)

93BlackFD 03-25-04 07:27 PM

lmfao. My Jeep Cherokee 4.0 6 cylinder is my economy car. I just recently purchased a kawasaki ZZR as my "new" economy vehicle

pluto 03-25-04 08:17 PM

lol....my gixer 1000 is my daily right now. 40mpg is hard to beat with something that has 150rwhp and does 1/4 in high 9's....

they say the best mod is a honda accord for when the FD brakes!

iceman4357 03-25-04 09:38 PM

PS i have an R6 and i agree with pluto. Bikes are the best performance for the money! Pluto are you a chick? With an FD and a Bike??!? God love you if you are.

93BlackFD 03-25-04 10:25 PM

that's steve kan

93BlackFD 03-25-04 10:36 PM

pluto = steve kan

fastcarfreak 03-25-04 10:50 PM

i usually go by the rule, if you are worried about gas then dont buy an FD. I guess that would change if gas was 5.35 a gallon though. Thats damn expensive.

NorthwindHost 03-25-04 10:59 PM

i dont think its really the rotary that kills the gas mileage. if anything i would blame the turbos.

pianoprodigy 03-25-04 11:23 PM

I usually get about 10 miles to the gallon, but I don't usually just put around either...

wiblergt 03-26-04 07:57 AM

93blackFD... are you going to be at the Rotary Revolution? I've bought some parts from you and am dying to see your car!!

will

93BlackFD 03-26-04 08:00 AM

i am not sure- still undecided, what did i sell you? lol, i ship so much stuff off it's ridiculous, i can't remember
