Curing Back Fire?
 

Would a HKS Twin Power & Power FC install cure back firing cause by opening up the exhaust? I have heard that a PFC alone doesn't(unless it just needs to be tuned by somone?) but I would think with extra spark that all that fuel should get burned up nicely in the engine instead of out the exhaust. Kinda just keeping my car stored away til I get the ECU this week but I was wondering if the Twin Power is worth it in the case of back firing? All that I've read on back firing really is stuff about upgrading parts that deal with fuel injection.

Its do to the fact that you are driving a turbo 2 stroke motor with no cats. The only cure is to put in some cats.

i'm not totally sure with the power fc but you should be able to turn injetors off on deceleration above 2000rpm. the twin power won't help your problem

I've found it has alot to do with your muffler. I've got a ported motor and sequential twins with all the bolt-ons including open exhaust using an old style Racing Beat dual tip muffler and Power FC. No flamage before or after the HKS Twin Power installed.

Another local guy with a single turbo and same Racing Beat muffler has no flamage.

The big straight thru can style mufflers give the biggest flames.

I don't have cats and I don't after-fire. My fuel-cut is set at 1200 RPM; it's a Commander function. Don't "not buy" the Commander. The TwinPower is "worth it" period. So is a Datalogit and a LM-1 WBO2 - all of which are relatively inexpensive bits and work well.

7racer: I was actually thinking that it could be the TPS as well which I will be checking as soon as I find my damn voltmeter.

As far as the cat-back gos I just love the sound of my Apex'i GT Spec but definetely the dual tip from Racing Beat looks much better. This is gonna be a stupid question but what is the advantage of a wideband sensor? I've always wondered but always forgot to ask my mechanic friends. Either way though I'll be getting the twin power but I was wondering if I should wait or not but if it is gonna do much for my issue then I can hold out for a bit.

A wideband sensor is for a more accurate read of your Air:Fuel ratios and for tuning.

Thank you for the info Red Suns. :) That has been bugging me for the longest time. Just never understood why a wideband is like $800 and regular sensors are way way way less! So I figured there had to be more to it.

do you have an idle controle solenoid?

I dunno what you guys are talking about...I lost 90% of my backfiring when I put my HKS Twin Power on. :( I want it back... :(

Innovate LM-1 is $350 and is the best WBO2 unit on the market. I cannot give a lesson on "open loop" and "closed loop" ECU mode operation in this thread. This is discussed in the forum and in numerous places on the web as all fuel-injected cars have been operating in this fashion for 25 years or so.

You have a PFC? Then you must have the Commander and a Datalogit and you must download, print up, and read Wargasm's Datalogit Tuning work that is stickied in the P-FC forum. Or get street-tuned by Steven Kan.

Worn plugs tend to pop more than fresh ones, no matter what the mods.
