Cruise control module connector?
 

Hi all,

Does anyone know what type of connector the oem 30 pin cruise control module uses so I can source one?

I'm retrofitting cruise control and all the JDM cars are not wired for cruise unless cruise is fitted so I need a connector.

My '92 Type X JDM parts car had cruise.

And the automatic aircon.

Do connector types show up in the Japanese electrical manual?

Wow, that stinks. US non-cruise cars had all the wiring - I added cruise to my '94 R2 in like 20 minutes. Plug and play.

That connector is a little odd, you may just want to find someone in the US with a junk harness that can cut the connector off or something.

Yeah my '91 type X had cruise also. The auto X, type X and touring X had cruise. All euro cars had cruise also!

Yeah I guess cruise is pretty rare in rhd so didn't make sense to wire it into all the harnesses! Being a late car I've had to source all the throttle body extras too as they only have the one throttle cable cam haha.

Anyone got a spare damaged dash harness that could spare a plug? :D.

I'm good for an actuator thanks! Sourced all the parts with the exception of the harness plugs. Just talking to someone who may have the two I need... (Cruise main switch plug and cruise module plug).

Got the steering wheel buttons, cruise main switch and throttle body parts new from Mazda, was cheaper than I could find used and I'd want them to be mint as the interior is in very good condition on this car despite its age.

Should be cruising soon!

No change to ecu?

ECU doesn't care on cruise control, it's a separate system. Cruise control brain, actuator under hood, buttons on dash to control it, brake/clutch switch. That's it.

Yeah the FD cruise system is super basic and old school, the ecu isn't even aware of the existence of cruise. It simply uses a separate throttle cable to actuate the throttle and monitors the cars speed sensor.

Cruise is a necessity for me these days really. I've been updating my FD to make it a bit easier to live with so I'll use it more. So far It's got an auto dimming rear view and side mirrors, one touch indicators and heated side mirrors.. And soon to have cruise! I nearly fitted heating elements in the Recaros... But being memory foam and the fact FD's heat up so fast I didn't bother. Must be some kind of sacrilege to convert oem Recaros to heated seats :lol:.

Not sure if there's anything still here, did have some type X wiring with the climate control crap. Anyhow, this is Oz and indicates it's a 20 pin - can't imagine Jap is that different?

Yes it is 20 pin, that was a typo on my part saying 30 pin.

Four things I did to make the car ride more comfy:

1. Switched to Tanabe Medallion Muffler (from Kakimoto)
2. Put in the Bathurst Showa struts with Tien graduated springs
3; Switched out my heavy 17" aftermarket rims and replaced with lightweight OEM "99 16" rims (as original to the model).
4. Higher sidewall tires (Potenzas - also factory spec.)
5. Bought a set of "gel" seat cushions. (You could get heated ones I suppose).

The lighter wheels really made a difference.

You could rig up a set of stock seats with the seat heaters and switch them in for the winter.

Does the 20 pin plug into the ecu or somewhere else?

Ah I like my recaros too much to swap them out for winter, they are pretty comfy with memory foam cushions and the FD warms up quick. It comes off the road in October anyway so doesn't see much cold weather. The heated mirrors are a nice to have in spring though!

The 20 pin cruise module is pinned like the above diagram, it doesn't connect to the ECU at all, just the speed sensor, brake switch, clutch switch, cruise actuator, main switch, steering buttons and cruise light etc. It's a really basic system, the ECU is oblivions to its existence, it cannot differentiate between your foot actuating the throttle and the cruise actuator.

I'll post up a full list of parts with PN's later in case anyone else with a later JDM car wants to retrofit cruise as we need a few extra bits over USDM cars to allow the throttle body to take a second cable etc.

I'm just in the process of taking the actuator apart to pimp it up, if it's going in the bay it needs to be a looker :D.
