Crooked Willow Dual Oil Cooler Install
 

I recently installed the CWC dual oil coolers on my 93. However, my kit did not come with a mounting bracket for the thermostat. My thermostat is not mounted to anything, but it also is pretty much locked into place by the oil cooler lines. Due to the fact that the thermostat has the short 90 degree swivel -AN elbow fitting hooked directly into the block, the thermostat won't budge.

Has anyone experienced any problems with leaking or anything breaking due to the rigidity of the lines? I ran the car to operating temperature and nothing has leaked thus far, I'm just worried about losing oil on the roadway.

Any input would be great!

There is no mounting bracket for it in that kit. It's supported by the elbow off the engine block. If you mount it solidly to the chassis, it won't move with the engine and loosen/break the line.

Ok great. The instructions stated there would be a bracket and to mount it to the rail that runs along the bottom of the intercooler. In CrispyRX7's write-up, he too mounts the thermostat.

I could see no way to move that thermostat up to that rail due to it being so rigid. Glad to see it went okay then!

That elbow is not designed to hold the weight. I've seen it bust from fatigue on at least one person. I made an L-shaped bracket to support it off of the a/c-p/s bracket so that it moves with the motor.

Was that person using a swivel 90 degree -AN elbow? I feel that the swivel won't allow the stress on the thermostat and lines... there is some flexibility there, not much, but a little.

Yes, they were using the swivel 90 fitting to the front cover that came with the kit so that 90 was holding the weight of the thermostat.

I put that elbow in the parts bin, mounted the t-stat on the side of the engine bay, and then made a short hose to connect to the motor.

Come to think of it, I may have used the elbow at the t-stat end of the hose. I'm nowhere near my car right now and can't look.

IAC I didn't like the idea of solidly mounting the t-stat to the motor with an elbow.
