Crazy Idle
Hey Guys,
I recently did the vacuume hose replacement and all turned out well except for a idle problem that developed. It seems to idle allright when cold but, at normal temp. it goes up and down between 1200 and 1400 rpm. I've been driving it and have noticed a couple of times it has actually idled at a normal, steady 700 rpm. If I disconnect the throttle position sensor it quits. If I turn on the air conditioning it idles normal also. I removed everything except for the air control valve and checked and retraced all vac. lines and have found nothing. I don't know what to try next. Is the throttle position sensor really sensitive? Maybe I screwed it up. I don't know if I have the tools to test it. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Garrett do you have a PowerFC? check your solenoids (they break very easily, i broke 3 of them when i did my vacuum system) if it does this right when your car "warms up" then it could be your double throttle control solenoid or actuator. |
I don't have a Power FC. I also broke a couple of solonoids, but I replaced them and tested all before I reassembled.
I have also tested the actuator with a mity-vac and tested the check valve. All good. I'll double check everything to make sure. Thanks. |

You might want to check your Throttle Position Sensor calibration.
Checked TPS settings on bench (actually floor - no workbench space left). Results: Using a 5.0 volt power supply between the brown/white and brown/black terminals, at throttle fully closed (off fast idle cam), "3F" voltage was 1.44 volts, should have been 0.75 - 1.25 volts. "3G" voltage was 0.7 volts, should have been 0.1 - 0.7 volts. I adjusted the throttle butterfly stop for more closure (not the TPS), and wound up with "3F" = 1.1 volts and "3G" = 0.4 volts. All the other voltages were per the manual both before and after the adjustments. |
make sure your AWS is hooked up too.

The AWS is connected and I tested it with an ohm meter when the extention manifold was off.
I'll make an attempt to test the TPS. |
