Crap...price quote for sunroof fix?
 
Great. I sold my car and the people will be here tomorrow to pick it up.

So today I open the sunroof, then I go to close it and it won't close.

The motor works fine to open the sunroof, but when i push the button to close it nothing happens.

Any ideas why? Price quote on repair? Look's like I am going to have to deduct a little money off the price of the car. What would be reasonable?

Is your switch buggered? Can you quickly swap it out with a buddies fd to see if that is the problem?

i don't know any other FD's in my area. i think it might be the switch actually.

There should be a way to just give power to the motor to close it. If that works, it's your switch that is not functioning.

If you can remove the switch, you can test the motor and circuitry by shorting the wires together.

While you have the switch out, disassemble it and clean the contacts. I would hope it's similar to the window switch and cleaning fixes it.

A word to the wise. Although I think you're morally obligated to fix the sunroof or pay for its repair, I also think you should protect yourself. Make sure you complete a Bill of Sale (blank forms are available online) and make sure it includes the words "sold As Is, Where Is." You don't want something else going wrong and the guy dragging you into court.

Also, if I remember correctly, the sunroof will close manually. I think there's a special tool for this. Is it in the back with the lug wrench? Consult an owner's or repair manual for further info.

you should be able to close it manually if you have the tool as stated above.

Think about it. The same motor is used to lift and close the sunroof; the wiring is just reversed to change direction. So if it moves one way but not the other then it’s probably not the motor.




When mine had a similar problem to what you’ve described I was able to take the switch apart and clean each contact; works like a charm now.

Yep if you look just behind the sunroof opening in the center of the roof you'll see what looks like a big plastic screw slot, turn that (probably CCW) and you'll see where the crank handle (tool) fits in there. Turn it which ever way is necessary to close it. Jack
