Crank sensor rubbing on sensor wheel

I have a new rebuild in the FD that someone did locally. I took it out tore it down, speced it all out and cleaned it, then had someone else assemble it(long story). I then put the engine back in the car and started it up and it ran good. i have been driving it for a while and it now has 1200 miles on it and has a base tune on it. it is getting tuned by Steve on may 22nd. I started to take the RPMs a little higher and noticed my tach starts to become erratic anywhere from 4-5 grand it will jump all over. I thought this was related to electric interference because i have really high knock readings also. I was looking around and noticed there are rub marks on the crank sensors. i removed the wheel adn checked if it is bent, and it is not. the rub marks are basically even all the way around. i made sure the sensors are all the way tight. i tried swapping the sensors and it made no difference. i checked end play in the engine and it was about 5-6 thousands. i put washers behind the bolts to see if it would fix the gauge problem, and it did. The problem with this is that it then changes the belt angle. So there is a reason it is like this and i cant figure out why.(possible engine builder error?) Please help!

when you say you checked the endplay..... what was it exactly? 5 or 6 thousandths of a mm or an inch? big difference.

sorry about .005 of an inch

The endplay is far out of mazda specifications: 0.04 to 0.07 is the range, with 0.09 being the maximum recommended. You're at 0.127.

You're off by an order of magnitude but the end play is still high - the spec is .040 mm to .070 mm (.0016-.0028 in), absolute max of .09 mm (.0035 in)
