cracked seal in rear rotor...is this possible?
 

so I cracked one of the apex seals in my rear rotor a couple days ago. I can get a hold of a new rotor housing and a good seal. if I do it myself, will it be ok until I can get enough money for a rebuild? or should I just not even bother? this is assuming that the seal is the only problem and maybe the rotor housing.

yeah you are out of luck here. you cant just take apart the motor and do that. I mean I guess you could but chances are it would be more cost effective in the long term to do it right while its out of the car. i wouldnt try to rebuild your own motor. why do you think it blew up? did you take out the plugs and crank the motor to listen for pulses?

Why I think it blew up.

the motor has always been weak...I bought the car with 4k on the motor (so he said...they cant find a reciept to prove this as of yet) anyways, I removed the EGI relay and cranked the car...and it sounds like I have low compression on two rotor faces (cracked seal most likely). the motor is under warranty, but they want me to take the car all the way back to texas...and being in school and working its just not feesible. I am hoping I can ship them (rotary performance/rx7.com) the motor and have them fix it, then put it back in myself. but if that fails...I will get a mild streetported engine from gothamracing.com and have steve kan re-check his tune (that he did last sunday :( )after the install.

oh well, it was worth a shot.

yea I don't have a ton more posts, but look how long I have been a member. I am not trying to jump on your shit, you just sounded very ignorant with your thread. Get a quality rebuild, it is not as easy as replacing one seal. This is the most important things you will do to your car, so do it right. I would think something that is going to cost you thousands of dollors and many hours would require a little research before asking the forum.

they wont cover apex seal damage...before you waste your time and send them the motor and pay shipping you need to be firm on the phone and tell them they need to cover the motor. It would suck to get it there and then they say well no its not under warranty but we will rebuild it for a cost! then you have another shit motor from them that you payed for

Sorry to read about your misfortune. Steve came out here in November and tuned 8 cars in the Phoenix area and everyone is very happy with the result. Steve takes great pride in his tuning, so I know that news of your misfortune will upset him. Ari and his crew at Rotary Performance run a top-notch shop. Hopefully they'll stand behind the motor. Keep us posted on your progress!!

Thanks, I appreciate it. If rx7.com doesnt honor my warranty on the motor, I will have you guys rebuild mine.

What kind of porting do you think would be best for the twins? I'd like to see about 350-390 rwhp at 14-17 psi. I will probly go non-sequential and I will have my couplers done by then, heh ;) .

EDIT: BTW, I fabricated a duct for my intercooler and before my engine took a crap on me, my intake temps never went above 31 C...even after some good runs on a 65-70 F day. That duct made all the difference.
