core charge

Ok, I've ordered a reman from mazda. As you all know they have a core charge. Does it matter what condition the engine is in or do they refund you because you gave them a core? I am asking because a friend of mine wants my front housing because his is warped. I am willing to give it to him but am worried I will lose my 1000 dollar core charge when I give them an engine that has been ripped apart to get to the front housing.

Here's another one. A coolant seal failed some where in the engine. I've heard the front housing around the exhaust port is where the seal commonly fails. Would it even be worth the trouble of trying to get the front houseing off, just to find a cracked water jacket thingy.

So whats the verdict........

You shouldn't lose your core charge, just swap out with the bad part. I'm sure they assume that the core is not going to be working. They just need the core so they can rebuild it and sell it to someone else.

well can you rebuild an engine? To get teh front housing off you need to tear it down completely. Unless you mean front cover But at that point why order a reman just rebuild yours.

A word of caution on mazda remans now. I have to take one out of a customers car because it has bad compression on the rear rotor. From before start up and now 600 miles later. I have to rebuild it on my dime. Thanks Mazda!:( The customer is not going to pay for a rebuild when he bought a reman that is "supposed" to be good. Ahh the price of owning a business.

The engines don't come with any type of warranty?

Used to be 12k miles or 12 months whichever came first. I'm sure its still the same.

BigIslandSevens 11-06-04 03:29 PM

yes it is the same warranty. However the trouble factor is escalated due to the fact that i am in Hawaii. The shipping and associated charges and time delays make it a better option for me to do it. This is all pending approval of the Mazda Rep on Monday;)

And it goes without saying but i'll say it anyways, the dealership doesn't know how to work on them.( and this is my customer not Mazda's) they will just replace it, which puts me back in the same boat. ...Not knowing if Williams technologies built it correctly. ( the company with the contract from CAT which is contracted with Mazda. Long confusing sub contracting;))

IIRC from what I was told by Mazda, it does not matter what condition the motor is in, as long as they get your complete core. Please call your dealer, maybe they have different restrictions. . .??

Yes, it doesn't matter the condition as long as ALL the parts are there.

I was wondering what parts should be left on when sending the core motor back?

ijneb 11-06-04 09:41 PM

Nothing. it should look like a keg.

seandizzie 11-08-04 10:53 AM

Cool. I really wanted to try the rebuild my self, but I just said fuck it, and ordered a reman.

Enthu 11-08-04 10:55 AM

I had an unlimited mielage one year warranty on my reman..which died in 2 years.

Basically, whatever the new core came with, you send back with your core... I think they have a stock flywheel, waterpump housing and few other minor things attached.
