cooling fan troubleshooting issues
Sometime yesterday my cooling fan system crapped out. luckily i montor the temp regularly via the pfc so i pulled over.
so far here is what ive tried. -the fuse is good. -the a/c button will not trigger the fans. -when i ground the TFA pin in the diag box with the ignition on, both relays click, but no fans. -disconnecting the thermo switch didn't change anything. the only way i can get the fans to run is..... -when i ground the relay with the blue wire w/green stripe, the fans run, if i turn on the a/c they step one speed higher. -the only relay i cant get to click, is the one with a black with yellow stripe. |
how can i test relay 1?

Diagram and good info here:
Pull the relay out Put 12V across terminal A and C on the relay. To be safe, positive to A, negative to C. This should make the relay "click". No click = need a new relay. When power is applied (as listed above) to A and C on the relay, D and B should short. Remove power and D and B should open. Connect D&B in the relay socket (use a paperclip) and the fans should run. It's concerning to me that Relay 1 is labeled differently from relay 2, 3, and 4. I would test with a multi-meter before doing what I said above ... just to be sure that you don't do more damage then good. I'm wondering if Mazda labeled the diagram incorrectly. Basically pull the relay and look for an open across D and B and a bit of resistance across A and C. If you don't see this I would question the diagram before using the paperclip that I mention above. |
