Coolant overflow problem?

OK, yesterday after driving for about twenty minutes, I pulled up in front of my house and turned the car off...
as I walked passed I noticed some coolant leaking out from under the passenger side front.

I never saw this happen before...it appears to be coming from under the coolant overflow reservoir, there is a joint there that appears to be loose. When I checked the coolant level it seemed full....

Is this common? Or am I in for trouble? It wasn't hot yesterday....

If you are sure that is where it came from I wouldnt concern myself with it too much. Just to be safe keep an eye on your fluid levels over the next week or so and keep a sharp eye out for more leaks.

I noted the same thing happening when I test drove my FD. I found it to only be a bit of overflow from be 'topped off' and have yet to see it re-occour. I'm going to flush my coolant soon anyways just to be safe on the mixing of it.

This could be a sign of a bad coolant o ring failing as air gets in the system and blows out the coolant tank.

Overflow after shut off is not uncommon if your overflow tank has been filled too high, as Kris points out. A more pertinent question is how is the level of the coolant in the filler neck? This is the cap next to the alternator. Open it and see how much coolant you have. If it is full, then you have no worries, just don't fill the overflow tank quite so full next time.

If you are losing coolant consistently, that is, having to fill the filler neck every time you dirve, then you have larger issues at hand. Could be as simple as a small pinhole leak in one of the 14 coolant carrying hoses in our engine, to as bad as a coolant O-ring in the engine block, which necessitates engine rebuild. So, what's the level of the coolant at the filler neck?
