Coolant Level Sensor Leaking
Just throwing this up so people searching can find it.
I have noticed that my car loses a little coolant every time I drive it (just an ounce or two). Not a big deal, I just top it up now and then. However, today was different. When I started the car, there was a beeping noise coming from the driver's instrument/steering wheel area. It was not a pattern like beep... beep... beep... It was very random. I checked all the guages, and everything looked good, so I decided to drive around the block. As I drove, the beeping sped up the faster I went, but it still wasn't a pattern. beep..................... beep beep beeeeeeepppppp..................................be eeppp... very random. The add coolant red light was NOT on. The car was running normal temp. The beeping made me very nervous, so I parked back in the garage and looked under the hood. The problem was apparent. The coolant level sensor on the front of the water pump body had a pinhole leak that looked like it was coming right out of the wire. This explains the beeping and may explain the very slow loss of coolant I have been having. Time to get a new coolant level sensor. :( |
Yeah looks like the sensor is toasted, time to get a new one. I have like 3 of those so let me know if you need one :)

Pics of the old part. Note the hairline cracks in the plastic thread and the mineralized (is that a word?) look where coolant/water mix was leaking out around the wire area on the front.
New part is in with a new rubber seal and seems to be trouble-free. Thanks Ray Crowe @ Malloy Mazda for the parts. https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1349571079 https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1349571079 |
