coolant leaking from overflow...
 

Okay, so I learned that you can't fill the coolant overflow resevoir too much because there is a hole that the coolant will leak from at the base of the filler neck. Fair Enough.
I drove my car about 12 minutes today and parked it back in the garage. As soon as I turned it off and went around the front, there was a puddle forming under the overflow tank and it was piddling out at a steady rate. Is this because I still had it filled to much and the heat caused some bubbling and expansion in the overflow? That wouldn't make sense because the coolant was cool to the touch. I recently replaced the thermostat and I am wondering if excess air could be in the system and could make it's way from the AST to the overflow and push some of the coolant out that hole...is this possible? I will have to keep an eye on the levels and see if it does it again.

i was having the same problems, filling it to the top and getting huge puddles of coolent under the car, i thought i had a leak and kept adding coolant, it also sounded like it was boiling when i would turn the car off, but i came to the conclusion that i was over filling it and stopped adding coolant, and temps are normal, and no more leaking.

It might just be an over filling issue

stock or alum ast?

Have same problem for last 4 wks but now fixed. Yours probably different than mine tho...

yep, sounds like the boiling....I figure I had too much in the system and it was purging out what I didn't need. I have an aluminum ast as well.

Why are you filling the over flow tank with coolant ?

Its not to hold coolant it just to catch any overflow ..... I would expect you get leaking issues due to its not supposed to hold coolant . You should add you coolant into the filler neck when the car is cool.

I had the same problem and it was coolant seals (I did not fill through the overflow tank). Hope that isn't the case for you.

I have no white smoke on startup or under any sort of load. It is just leaking out from the overflow because I filled it. It all leaked out and I just took it for a drive tonight and it was dry as a bone after the drive.
