Coolant buzzer + middle dash speaker wtf??
Stock 92 JDM FD
After driving for at least 15 minutes ish, coolant light and buzzer come on, and the speaker in the middle of the dash sounds like it is transmitting from the engine bay (I kid you not, it's like it's attached to a microphone under the hood), accompanied with rev matched squeal like when a neg comes off the battery. The speaker sound is intermittent but the coolant buzzer is persistent until parked for like half an hour .Temps on the normal water temp gauge doesn't move from normal at all (and I watch that thing like a hawk), battery connected properly, voltage 14 ish to boost gauge. Everything else tickety boo. When I bought the car two months ago, windows were intermittent, now they are fully working and haven't touched them at all. Previous owner took spoiler off and refitted without gaskets so hatch fills with water (not the trunk but the actual hatch itself), only just found that the other day when I lifted the hatch and got a cold shower. Plenty of work to do but... Please... The buzzer :L suggestions please! |

Dale Of course. Might have found it last night anyway, didn't put one of the clamps back on one of the coolant hoses near the UIM. The little tiny right angle one ... |

I have had my car since 2012 and when I got it the sound system worked, each year that went by it seemed like I lost a speaker each year. First the door speakers and then about a year ago the small one on the dash did the same thing your describing. At first the door speakers would snap back on a few minutes into my drive, now nothing. Haven’t ventured into and alternative and for the most part wouldn’t know where to start on trouble shooting. We are probably going to have to pull all the old out but the real question is what is the best alternative and less painful way of doing it haha. Clinton |

Each speaker has its own amp. These all fail after many years, one by one. You can simply replace everything with something more modern or you can have the amps repaired for around $70-$80 each or buy new amps through Bose for slightly less. The door speaker amps are attached to each speaker and the center speaker amp is inside the center console, behind the ashtray. Mike |

Oh and just as an update to the topic of the thread - I fitted that hose properly the other day and finally got to take it out for a good pasting last night - no coolant buzzer or weird speaker noises. These cars are quite peculiar.

Even the non-Bose system has a separate center channel amplifier the runs the center speaker and affects the front door speakers but my not amplify them. The rear speakers run from the radio unit itself.

Mine started to sound like it was transmitting interference from something until it eventually turned into a banshee scream. I unplugged the center channel amp and it disappeared.

Mike mike thanks for the info, are the door panels hard to bust open and what do you think the best option is? My first thoughts are just to get something more updated from Bose, will that really work just changing the amps? I have never changed a stereo in my life and just like everyone else’s the CD player was poof the day I purchased my car. Would be nice to hook up something updated just not too confident tearing apart. thanks, Clinton |

The door panels are not that hard to remove. Follow the workshop manual that you can get online. There are like four screws. I haven't replaced the front speakers since I simply replaced the amps with new ones. The center channel amp requires removing the center console button and ashtray plastic piece. Be careful not to crack the plastic or lose the metal clips on the plastic prongs. The center channel amp can be seen right behind the ashtray location. The CD player that goes out often can be repaired. It is a Panasonic or Clarion player, I forget which one, that is made for BOSE. The laser mechanism goes out and the part was still available about two years ago. Look for United Radio online to repair it. I shipped it to them and they repaired mine for about $120-$140, I believe, if I remember correctly. Call them and they will give you a quote before they repair it. The were aware of the problem and told me that the laser goes out. I kept the stock system. It still sounds great for its age. Others can tell you about changing to something else since I have no experience with alternative systems. Mike |

I hate to say it but the last guy who went digging around on my center console I believe already busted or lost the clips cause I can just about pick it straight up with no effort. -.- just another part to fix, so I guess I’m halfway there fixing the speakers haha. clinton |

I bought new metal clips directly from Mazda 2 years ago. Relatively cheap around $6 or $7 each, as I remember. If the plastic is broken off, then you are out of luck

Buzzer's back! No speaker sounds this time though. Time for a flush and burp and a sensor check I think. Either way I'm not cutting the buzzer out, it's there for a reason.

just ordered 5 clips from Mazda for center council here in NY, there were about 20 total available all out in beautiful Cali! |
Sounds great, seems my chances will be slim to none trying to find them in the UK's real-life equivalent of Hogwarts then :)
