Consider checking your FD brake lines....

Just finished replacing the hard brake line that runs over the differential to the RR wheel on my car. My wife and I were out for a drive and about 40 miles away from home when the dash "BRAKE" light came on. Checked my master cylinder and sure enought...it was low. Fortunately I had enough pedal to (carefully) get back home. Put it up on the lift and discovered just a film of fluid on the very bottom of my diff housing. Followed the fluid trail up and noticed the hard line had somehow come out of THREE different retainer clips and had been resting/vibrating on top of the differential housing for who knows how long...and finally worked a pin-hole in it.

It's a pre-bent line that's tucked up in there pretty good....runs from a junction box at the LR...then over the axles and diff to the RR wheel. You have to look for it. Fortunately it wasn't expensive or that hard to change. Hardest part was fishing the new line back up, over and around the brackets for the diff bushings without bending it. The other positive was that since I was going to be bleeding brakes anyway, I used the opportunity to install the rear stainless lines that I'd been procrastinating about. I also changed my brake fluid which was starting to look like swamp water.

Anyway, probably just one of those "freak" things...I don't recall seeing any other related threads. But it's easy to check, so I thought I'd meniton it. I'm usually pretty good about giving the car a "once over" whenever I'm under it, but obviously I missed this. Next time you have the car up on stands, use a flashlight and take a peek at this line and make sure it's in all three retainer clips

Thanks for mentioning it.

lol. Sorry, apparently a worthless thread. But since it was brakes.....figured I'd say something. :)

Thanks for posting this :icon_tup:

The threads about neon yellow headlights, buying an FD on a payment plan, and the proper method of closing your hood of course bring far more value to this forum, so your little ditty about something as insignificant as the FD braking system won't get much attention

Thanks Sgtblue. Will definitely inspect mine next time she's up in the air (which is quite often)!

I've been meaning to check that line actually so thanks for reminding me :) How many miles do you have on your car if you don't mind me asking?

So, what is the proper method of closing your hood?

how much would the down payment be on a $6500 roller, and do you think the bank would finance enough to buy the engine and transmission to do a swap?
