Compression Test Results
Guys,
While getting my car (97' Rx7) serviced today (it has 80,000 on the clock) i got a compression test done by the rotary specialist. He said the results for that mileage were really good here they are, any opinions? Im told mazda say they should be over 6.0. Rotor 1) 8.2 8.1 8.2 Rotor 2) 7.6 7.5 7.7 THanks :icon_tup: |
If that's in BAR or atmospheres (and I assume it is) then that's awesome compression for a new engine! The problem with measuring compression on rotaries is: it's highly dependent on cranking speed and engine temperature (unless you have to correct pressure tester – few do). The consistency is important also.

ummm it just says on the print out kgcm2 -- ?? Sorry dont know what that means aye:scratch:

Yeah that's approximately 116 psi on rotor #1 and 108 psi on rotor #2 (converted from the metric kg/cm^2)
According to Rotary Resurrection website: 115+ is like new, 100-115 is healthy, 90-100 is getting weak(1 year or less in most cases) below 90 could blow at any moment. So it looks like you're still go to go. P7k |
Yep those are very good numbers. A brand new engine is around 8.5. Hopefully the coolant seals are just as solid.
