compression problem?
 

when i park my car on a driveway that has an incline or a hill, and i put my car in first w/o the e-brake my car will slowly move. is this due to bad copression? because isnt the compression of the engine supose to keep the car from moving when its in gear? thanx

hey it's a rotary..doesn't have 4 or six cyl to hold back a 2000 lb car ..besides you should never expect the engine to be a parking brake anyway ..and either would your insurance company..not raggin just my 2 cents ..don't be cruel to the engine and trans! try to park where it is level.. or turn your wheels to the curb ..you asked

or use the ebrake.

i always use the e brake no matter what. with my experiance w/ other manual cars they will not move if it is in gear. i was trying to see if this was because of low compresion. i would appreceate if some one could try this with their car that has good compression. thanx

... the 1st gear isnt a good judge on if the compresion is bad... a compression guage is though ;)

if the hill is steep enough it will move the car in first. but hey just get a comp tester. its like 25 bucks at autozone. (i really cant talk , i been jibbing on getting one myself.)

A piston engine and the extra resistance from the valve-train make it possible to just use the gear w/o the e-brake. Piston engines have more rotating mass. Rotaries can be turned over by hand even with perfect compression. Use your parking break.
