Compression
What is the normal compression on a stock FD engine?
|
I've heard 9 kg/cm2 is a good, healthy engine...but I could be wrong:(
|
from 6.5 to 8.0 is good to me. I have yet to see a reman other than mine to have a high compression.

What was your compression?
|
is it 9 or 6.5 to 8?

8.5 kg/cm^2 is the factory new spec, not 9. Why EVERYONE thinks its 9 i have no idea. 9.0:1 c/r maybe? So, a brand new engine should have 8.5 kg/cm^2 all around. If you've read results higher than that, its probably because it was tested cold, which boosts results by almost exactly 1.0kg/cm^2 all around, in the example I saw. The minimum is 6, so, basically 6-8.5 is the valid range. This is at 0 ft, 250rpm, HOT engine.

Sorry to revive this ancient thread :)
I'm looking to buy an FD with 50,000 original miles and he just got his compression check done this afternoon. Here are the results of the test... 9.5 9.6 9.3 244RPM 8.7 9.0 9.0 243RPM They said that was pretty good. Im not really sure what it should be??? Let me know if you're still interested. Thanks, Paul Thanks for any opinions :) |
