Completing Rebuild
 

Hey guys,

Im almost ready to put my motor back together after the housings have been lapped and get my car running finally.

so alright i really need help on the next few questions. Ive done searches but they are soo general i come up with sooo many results i dont know which thread to read. if you can please label your answers to the corresponding quesiton number. thanks. =)

1) I took off my old belts because they were gettng old. So i plan on running a mid-pipe but the problem is... what do i need to eliminate the airpump and find the correct size belt. Where would i get the eliminate air pump kit?

Also, i dont plan on putting on the midpipe on right after the rebuild - due to breakin period and saving for tuning. So if i run the airpump temporarily ill obviously need 2 belts. 1 being stock fit. Do these belts from autozone and whatnot work just as good? or do i have to spend 60 bucks for that belt from mazdatrix.

2) Will it be safe to run I/E/DP/ Stock Apexi PowerFC (not tuned yet) until i can get it tuned?

3) What kinda oil should i start with and always use for this motor?

4) Im getting a new clutch, probably a street/strip, and a lightenend flywheel... will the lightened flywheel affect my car in any negative aspect?

5) How come the 7 is soo damn sexy and will never lose!

2 those 3 mods should be fine on a stock pfc. I think u can run all those one the stock ecu.

3 non syntetic for breake in then go to a syntetic oil.

If you are going to take off the airpump as soon as the car is broken in, just don't put it on in the first place (IMO). If you don't have emissions testing, you'll be fine.

As far as what to get, just get either the Greddy Pulley Kit or the Rotary Performance Airpump Removal Pulley Kit. Either one will give you what you need to remove the airpump.

BTW, if you are going to remove the airpump, you may as well order a Block Off Plate kit and remove the ACV (as well as few other things).

There is nothing really "negative" about lightened flywheels. They aren't very good for drag racing but they are just fine for street and even better for road tracks.

dont put what on in the first place...the air pump...belt...or midpipe...?

its not that i plan on taking it off right hwne the car motor is broken in, i plan on taking it off right when i have enough money for tuning and i dont wnana break it in with a midpipe on. so i guess it can wait awhile.

Oh, your in Cali... Once you go midpipe, how are you going to pass emissions testing?

If you plan on just swapping the cat back in, install the airpump. It's not robbing you of any real HP being in the car.

I believe he is referring to the airpump, as long as you don't have smog tests, then why put it on now and take it off later.

K2RD has the belts your looking for although their website is dead right now... i believe its a 5 ribbed 30-31 inch belt? i think i have seen someone use a 4 ribbed 29.5 inch belt but im not 100% sure.

Im running intake, dp, mp catback (all straight thru type 3.75 inchs) as well as smic and all metal piping with a ball/spring type manual boost controller and am able to keep 10psi all on the stock ecu. dont go by the amount of mods, go by how much boost your running and what your a/f ratios are.

the type of oil you choose is totally up to you. personnaly id go with the cheapest dino oil i could find but id change it a lot more often.

a lightened flywheel will probally only effect you when your at a stop light going up hill. it carrys less rotational mass so you might feel it there but i doubt it will really hurt you.

why aren't you gonna run midpipe after the rebuild? I just got a rebuild with a fresh streetport and a few other goodies and I'm running a midpipe. Thank god I have massive hook ups at a smog test only station:D. Anyways, I also removed my airpump in order to install my intake system. What do the block off plates block off and remove? Sorry for hijacking your thread :p:. I also went non-seq so is there something else I should do when I get it back from the shop? I wish I had the money for a aluminum flywheel since I have a short shifter now.
