I've had my FD ~6 mos and I continue to be amazed at the number of comments I get on the car. I am not exaggerating when I say that someone wants to talk to me about the car almost every single day.

Everybody has a story about the first time they saw one etc etc. It's really flattering and am wondering if others experience the same? I know that the area in which I live I sparingly see another FD. I might see on or two in a year on the street if I'm lucky so I'm sure the rareness of it contributes to all the comments. Gotta love it though.. near 20 year old car that people still drool over. I really do think that the rx7, 300z, supra and to some degree the 3000gt are destined to become highly sought after collector cars the older they get. The 90's generation of these cars was Japan's automakers going all out to one up Porsche, Corvettes and one another. Awesome stuff!

Yep I would gamble to say that we all do. Even here in southern CA where many people fix up cars people give me the thumbs up, others stop and ask questions, take pictures, or film me as I drive by. I took my cousin out on the FD a couple of weeks back and he had never been in an FD nor seen one… Actually he could care less as he isn’t into sports cars. Anyway he was amazed at the amount of attention we got, even from the occasional girl (no where near as much as males tho lol). Meh… I just told him that after 13 years of ownership I’m used to it and actually don’t really care for it but I always wave back, say thank you and answer questions.

CA supposedly has the most FD’s in the country and I see one once every three months if that. It has always been a rarity to see another on the road but
it seems that these cars are getting more scarce as the years go by.

That is exactly why I am firm believer that the cars will be a collectible one day. But it doesn’t really matter to me as I’m never giving up my car anyway.

Yep, continual comments. I get the occasional, "how much did you pay for it?", which is pretty annoying. In the world of disposable everything, most people buy their power without taking true ownership..... I enjoy telling I do all my own work. Especially when I pop the hood. :D

I seem to get all the questions when I'm driving around, never when stopped. It's scared me a couple times when I'm minding my own business driving along then out of nowhere, "WHAT KIND OF CAR IS THAT!!?!"

There is something nice about being apart of something that very few people ever will.

korea_senpai May 9, 2011 08:36 PM

I had a guy mistake it for a Viper. But mine is RHD and he quickly changed his mind to "whats this?"

camajo May 9, 2011 08:41 PM

Too funny! I had car full of high school kids eyeing me a month or so ago. Finally one of them leans out of his window and says.... 'is that a supra? '....... I reply, no its better than a supra! ;)

What the heck does "Is it built?" mean?

YoshiFD3S May 10, 2011 08:09 PM

LOL nice thread.

I can't wait for my FD to be finished, so I can recall the feeling of being gawked at.

There's something about the feeling of KNOWING everyone is staring at your car that just makes me happy. Nothing like it..

And it's even better with an FD, because it's such a rare car, that you get the people who KNOW what it is staring at it, and then you get the people who DON'T know staring at it just trying to figure out what it is.

Ah, the excitement of getting my FD back is killing me! lol

I had a guy pointing at me with a jaw dropping look as I drove by a gas station, and later on an RX-8 stay along side me for a good 3 mins just looking, probably think damn I should've bought one of these instead

I had an rx8 for 4 years before I traded it in for an rx8. I can assure you that is essentially spot on...

I only saw an FD driving around one time in the four years, while I was passing through St. Louis there was a clean montego blue on the freeway. I literally stared at it for 30 minutes worth of traffic before he exited. God, I love the FD.

The only comment I've gotten on my car is , "I hate your car, it takes too much time from me".

Time for a trade in.....

and I'm not talking about the FD..... ;)

YoshiFD3S May 11, 2011 08:14 PM

LOL @ ^^^^

My wife hates me just being outside wiping down my DD....I fear for when I get the FD completed and out here.

She has right to be angry though, because every single visit home to Georgia on leave has been 90% consumed by working on the FD at the shop....all day....almost every day.

lol

Hopefully once she rides in it again, I'll get that same "ZOMGAH BABEH I WANTZ TEH SECKZ IN YO CAR RIGHT NOW!" and I'll use that to justify all the time/money I've put/continue to put into it. ^.^

I had a few people mistaken my FD for a corvette..

Not necessarily a bad thing....

I chose the Shine Auto "Burnout" wide-body front & rear fenders for my FD, because I like their straight-edge "modern" design, that I believe resembles the C6 Z06's.

:]

korea_senpai May 11, 2011 10:46 PM

The vents on the front fenders don't help either when it comes to comparing the two.

Yes, the only wide body kit I like for our cars.

And the poor FD's with LS1 swaps.... they don't stand a chance ;)

BStallion May 11, 2011 11:01 PM

It doesn't help that a vette the same color lives near by also..

EUROX May 12, 2011 12:20 AM

I've had the following said to me at various gas stations when filling up:
  • Nice Miata!
  • I love your Corvette!
  • Wow, is that a Ferrari?!

I hear the Miata one more often than any other though. Most people are kind and genuinely curious though.

They do look alike tho, some article even said Chevy copied the FD (body wise).

korea_senpai May 12, 2011 10:08 AM

Especially the roof, I have vette owners argue all the time Mazda copied Chevy, nope the FD came before the 5th Gen vette so we had it first.
