come on yall, ive searched and searched

im about done with my swap, just wiring now.

ok, i took out my auto ecu, there were two computer boxes, ive heard that the smaller one is just for the auto tranny, and that i dont need it, i just need to hook up the new manual ecu computer, is this right?

and i kept my auto wiring harness for the main ecu, car wont crank, ive been told all i need to do, to get it to crank, is to hook up, two wires to the neutral swith, on the clutch pedal (there are two harness hook ups on the pedal, i assume that the neutral switch is the one on the bottom, that the pedal hits, when it is pushed in, am i right?) anyway, which two wires from the auto harness do i need to wire up to the clutch neutral switch?

ive done a bunch of searches, but i have not found a straight forward answer to this, this is the only thing standing in my way, of driving my new 5 speed, dont deny no longer of this wonderful thing i have not yet experienced

you should PM Ejmack1
He's successfully done the swap, and he's a pretty nice guy who doesn't mind questions about it :)

Mahjik 05-01-03 11:22 AM

PM "cover8". He just finished his swap just a few weeks ago. I'm sure the wiring is still fresh in his memory.

mcfly4001 05-01-03 11:33 AM

thanks yall, i got pms out to both cover8 and ejmack1, thanks though, im still waiting on them, they must be busy

mcfly4001 05-01-03 04:37 PM

surely one of yall know this other than ejmack1!

ejmack1 05-01-03 04:48 PM

im busy guys, sorry, the only wire that I hooked up was the clutch switch wire... right now i have it so it thinks the clutch is "depressed" all the time. So i dont have to actually press the clutch in to start the car. The other switches that are actually on the tranny, 1-2 switch, neutral switch, and reverse switch do not need to be hooked up in order for the car to run or start properly.

mcfly4001 05-01-03 05:04 PM

thanks ejmack1, umm im confused, is the clutch switch on the clutch pedal or on the tranny, i would think its the one on the pedal that when the clutch pedal is depressed, it pushes, am i right?

and what wire did u hook up to the clutch switch? and from where, the auto ecu harness? what color was it?

thanks so much, im ignorant to this wiring stuff, i would experiment, but i figure its to risky, i just want it done right, thanks yall

I will have to take a look...

mcfly4001 05-01-03 09:24 PM

thanks for looking ejmack1, i will be waiting, im thinking if i knew what wires in the auto harness, that would normally go to the clutch switch, i could splice them together, and that would complete the circuit, and would tell the computer that it had the clutch depressed to allow it to crank, am i on the right track? thanks, paul

To get the car to turn over....

There is a black relay on the drivers side kick panel...you must connect the two largest wires on the starter interlock relay...this will allow you to start the car without pushing the clutch pedal.

Got to the passenger side kick panel and located the x-05 connector. It is the largest, blue connector and jump the two biggest wires on the connector...one is blue and the other light red or pink. Now your car will turn over when you turn the ign key.

This will not neccesarily make your car start though. Your injectors will need to fire...and for this to result you will have to make sure the ecu is properly terminated.

If you used the auto engine harness...you should be golden although you 1-2, neutral may be disabled (no biggie)

mcfly4001 05-02-03 10:26 AM

cover8, thanks man, if this works, im buying u dinner, or something, haha

um when u say, 'jump the two biggest wires', do u mean to just connect them?

and u said for my ingectors to fire, i need to make sure that they ecu is properly termninated, how do i do that?

thanks again,

paul

mcfly4001 05-02-03 10:59 AM

ok cover8 that took like ten minutes, i found the rely on the passenger side, it had 3 wires i think, 2 big, 1 small, i hooked the 2 big together, and i found x-05 connector, and found a blue wire, with a yellow stripe, and a red wire, with yellow stripe, hooked them together, and bam! it fired up, is this all right? will my car now have full funtionallity?

thanks so much man?

and once again, how do u make sure that the connection is terminated to the ecu?

thanks

paul

cover8 05-02-03 11:33 AM

"correct termination" on the ecu pretty much applies to the usage of the manual engine harness. If your car is starting and running you are golden.

1-2, nuetral and starter interlock are not imperative to a good running conversion.

"Jump" means to connect.

ejmack1 05-02-03 11:44 AM

Jump around ;)

mcfly4001 05-02-03 01:37 PM

jump up jump up and get down, well everything seems to be working! wooooooooo whooooooooooo! so far, haha, um i dont know, just happy

cover8 05-02-03 04:07 PM

Great job mcfly!!! Take 'er easy :)
