Collector car insurance?
 

I'm sure this question has been asked multiple times, but I searched and the only threads I found dated back to 03.

I'm 21 years old with a clean driving record, no tickets, no DWI's, etc. I'm paying $90 a month for insurance. I probably won't even drive the car 3,000 miles this year, is there any kind of classic car insurance or collector car insurance that will insure a 1993 RX7???

I've looked, but ive had no luck!

i have a 93 with alot of mods. Hagerty is my insurance company. They insure collector cars and show cars. My car is insured with them for 35k. My allstate agent hooked me up with them.

I'd like to do the same... my paint on my car can't be matched due to the way it's blended. It would be near impossible to get a nice replication without a sample.. it's multi-colored. Anyway, do you know if they cover things like this? Say the car got keyed, would they repaint the whole thing?

I just went to the Hagerty homepage and inputted my info and it stated that they can only insure cars no later than 1986.. Did I fill it out wrong? this is for a 94 FD.

I'm in the same boat as you - I drove my FD a total of about 500 miles in the past year and a half, however, I don't quite think that 3rd gen. RX-7s currently qualify as a "classic" or "collector's car".

How about a 1990 turbo 2?? u think they would insure that?

I have my quote right here from Hagerty. $20K coverage for $434 a year.
So....not sure about what you are seeing on their site. I got this quote via my Farm Bureau insurance agent.

From what I've seen, it varies from state to state on the year cars they insure. Hagerty won't go through for a 1993 RX7 on the website, but I may contact my insurance agent and see if he can make it go through.

Hagerty told me our car are not collectible enough for them to insure. I've tried to insure with them for two years now. no luck! whats up with them.. how are you guys doing it. can someone give me an agents name and number I can get hooked up with.

Yeah i tried once and the lady I talked to was a bitch and i ended up arguing with her that people with the same car as mine are insured through her company. Then she started asking if my car had show plates or some bullshit like that.

If anybody on here has Hagery please post up your agents name.

Insurance really does vary by state (it's regulated at the state level). When I moved from Ca to NY, my insurance company told me they did not cover FDs in NY state. (They'd cover a Z06 or Viper, but not an FD due to its high performance!)

Has anyone tried 'fibbing' to Hagerty's web site to see if they would get coverage if they were in another state?

The way I understand it, you and the insurer agree on the vehicle, what is to be covered, what it's worth, and how it's driven. It's a little more work up front, but your paint would be covered.
You can try this with your regular/current insurance company. My premium only went up a few bucks when I added my rims to the policy (the agent asked me the value and she took a few pics to document them). I think I was with Mercury (in So Cal) then...

Just did, I live in NC and I got the message "In your state the car must be 25 years or older"

I "fibbed" and told them I was in Utah. I got $198 a year!!!!!

I use USAA so I'd probably have to submit all the pictures myself. I have to speak to an adjuster because nobody was able to give me an answer (i spoke with 4 people there)

I'll have to check into it.

Also, make sure you have the car classified right. The only way they did mine was to classify it as 'Collector Auto - Exotic'.

I have my FD insured with Grundy.

Insured for $22k (though I may need to bump that up)
at about $350 per year.

Ya aparently different states have different policies.

Anyone know any information on Illinois policy? I'm going to apply for this insurance very soon.

I also tried Hagerty's web site for several states and had to enter the RX-7 as an "exotic", not as a "stock" or "modified" vehicle. (In Pa, Hagerty requires a minimum agreed value of $15k)

Also note their fine print:
* Usage: Hagerty provides coverage for vehicles that are used on an occasional basis -- e.g. club functions, exhibitions, organized meets, tours and limited pleasure driving.
* Storage: Collector vehicles must be stored in a fully enclosed, locked garage when not in use.
* Driving records: Generally, one or two minor traffic violations or accidents are acceptable. We are not able to insure those who have experienced major infractions such as a DUI, reckless driving or excessive speed violations within the past 3-6 years (Depending on state requirements). All household driving records are subject to review by an underwriter.
* Regular-use vehicles: Each licensed household driver needs to have a regular-use vehicle for daily driving and must maintain regular-use insurance in his or her own name.

Just go to Hagerty.com and get a quote. It took a couple minutes and I didn't have to give any personal info at all. (It's just a non-binding quote)
Unfortunately I don't think Grundy's site provides "instant" quotes...

hagerty covers my car under exotic not classic. try that. I had to send them pics of my car and copies of all my reciepts. It is easier to use your agent to submit the app.
