I'll second that one. If it starts squealing, get home fast. It won't be long before it won't shift at all.

Not really, mines has been making noise for almost a year now and I'm currently fine, I'm pretty confident that its the Throw-out bearing and I have exactly the same symptoms as you have. Personnaly, I'm gonna ride it till it bust!

Here is a nice little page of tranny trouble shooting (also the only one on the web I have found so far).

Good luck

Output Shaft Bearing?

Input shaft bearing. I have that noise too, lot's of people here told me I'd be due for a rebuild by now, but it hasn't gotten any worse and there are no driveability issues with it. I can barely hear it unless the windows are up and the radio is off and the car isn't moving. I've noticed the noise in 2 other FD's and both of their owners said it seemed normal to them. I asked George from Sevenspeed (who did my 5 speed conversion) and he said it was fairly common to hear it on FD's and that unless it got worse not to worry about it.
