clunk when comming to a stop

hi has anyone run in to a problem where when you car coming to a stop, there is a clunk or two that comes from your tire area, mines does this every once an a while. i know that the brake rotors are a little out of round/warped but it never clunked before, what do you guys think it is? just started today by the way.

is it comming from your rear? if so, your bushing for either the trailing arm or the toe links are going bad, try jacking up the rear of the car and then shaking the wheel as much as you can, and see if you can pinpoint where the clunk is coming from... tell us your year and make and it would help. But these things DO get old on our cars FAST. you can buy replacements from pettit or from M2 Performance.HTH

i think i'll just change the all the bushings back there.. is there a kit? how many bushings and is it a bitch to do.. or get some pros to do it.. okay.. laters :D

Bushings ... but also if you had anything recently done springs/shocks wise make sure that everything got put back on.

Mine did this as well even though I haven't heard it in awhile. But it would always do it right when I hit the brakes. I always thought it was coming from the front but it could be from the rear. If I get under the car, where am I looking for the bad bushings. Where are the ones that are usually the problem. Also getting a replacement for these will eliminate or minimize wheel hop, correct?

Well it may be coming from the rear. I suggest checking your front control arms for grooves from an end link rubbing. Mine used to do that before I replaced the sway bar mounts. Those mounts bend easy and cause misalignment of the sway bar and the end links rub grooves into the control arms. Check it out. I only used to do it when going in reverse.

Mine comes from the rear only when I start breaking, every now and then. I replaced the trailing arms which eliminated the knocking noise that came from the rear right but now I have this problem.....will toe links help out here?

pray it's not your powerplant frame. :/

thatoneguy Mar 4, 2002 06:34 PM

Actually, the Powerplant frame is cheaper and easier to replace than the bushings.
