Cleaning engine components?
 

Something I thought was kinda cool was just when I was unbolting my front section housing from my engine stand the clock struck 12 and it was 2010. Half way through my winter project (going single turbo/Ultimate fuel system/AV seals and some more porting) or at least I think about half way through?

Anyway, my question: Is it ok to submerge engine components such as rotor housing/int. housing/Etc. in parts washing sink or is this a no-no. Naturally I would not dare scratch a machined surface, but I was just curious.

You should be cleaning the housings and rotors while its all apart, they're really not that easy to do damage to.

You'll find that a lot of debris will come off better when the parts are dry, especially carbon (especially on the rotors). Scrape and brush off as much as you can. That will keep your tank from becoming excessively contaminated. It's OK to dunk the engine parts in solvent. As a final step, brake cleaner degreases all the surfaces very nicely.

I'd bow to the opinions from those who do it for a living, but.......

I put both irons and rotors in a parts washer I have in my shop. Used nylon scrub pads and a brass brush for most of the cleaning. Where needed on the rotor faces I used EASYOFF oven cleaner, more scrubbing and then rinsed with hot water in a utility sink. Compressed air dry then a really good spray with WD-40.
Used old side seals to clean side seal, coolant seal and apex grooves of carbon.
In my case all bearings were changed btw.
