Claybar works magic...

Applied claybar today on the hood, because it was off for the engine R&R. Also did alot of other products just to see how well the end result would turn out. Came out quite nicely and the pictures don't do it any justice. The lighting was throwing the auto-focus off also. The list of products I applied today include...

1. Mother's Clay Bar
2. Mother's Showtime Cleaner (included with clay bar)
3. Mother's Carnuba Wax (included with clay bar)
4. Meguiar's 3-Step - cleaner, polish, wax
5. Turtle Wax Color cure
6. S100 Cleaner
7. S100 Paste Wax

Applied in that order also

I know, a bit overkill, but I wanted to see how well the 11 year old paint could shine.

Now, the pics...

lol, now put the hood back on, or set it in place for a good show of before/after.

PVerdieck 03-02-04 10:25 PM

HAHAHA. Looks like you took my route :)

I found I had to make sure I had enough of the claybar spray down, and not press too hard or I ended up with streaks of clay .

xstacy7 03-02-04 10:30 PM

Oh, and by the way the Meguiars 3-step on the right is on the towel because it kept sliding down the hood
hehe

PVerdieck 03-02-04 10:52 PM

What are the 2 products on the left? You didn't mention them. Did you have some scratches you were trying to hid with the color cure?

cloud9 03-02-04 11:23 PM

Is it necesary to use so many products? i used the meguires claybar kit and also a meguires polish/wax in one and it came out awesome

bigmack000 03-03-04 12:18 AM

i guess it depends on how bad your paint looks.

you probably got more of the affect of using such products over and over, instead of the actual affect of each product combined.

i have a question about wax in general, how do you remove the white wax residue that gets left on the ends of doors or folds? it really show's a lot on my car since it is a dark color??????

bigmack000 03-03-04 01:09 AM

Old toothbrush works to.

On the far right is Black Magic "Wet Shine". I didn't use it on the hood because the S100 gives the same, if not better effect as that.

I used all these products, with the intention of each one having a purpose. Did the claybar to remove contaminants, then the 3 step for the paint cleaner and polish with wax, then color cure to bring back the color, and then S100 for the mirror shine.

I've done all these products separately several different times on the car, however the end result with all of them combined turned out slightly better.

Also, on the driver's side door there was some overspray from the previous owner. I did claybar over this (which felt like sandpaper and you could see the white specs of paint) and the claybar took it right off and smoothed it up real nice. It was definately worth it.

NukeGenius 03-03-04 09:54 AM

what's the claybar actually supposed to do?

wishbanzai 03-03-04 10:09 AM

Claybars remove contaminants from the finish. Use mothers claybar on waterspots every other day and it will significantly decrease their showing.
I use mothers clay bar but I am a Dri-Wash person myself. No white gunk in the cracks with the Dri-Wash either.

CowsniperRX7 03-03-04 10:29 AM

My car really needs some clay bar. Looks good!

did it leave any swirls? another question for dark cars (mb) is how do you get rid of the swirls? is there a certain wax that works better?

1QWIK7 03-04-04 02:17 PM

There are Definately not any swirls on that hood. :p:

Swirls on a Dark car are very hard to get rid of, however* it mostly depends on the type of towel you use to take the wax off with. I use a microfiber towel from Wal-mart that comes with like 3 blue and 3 white ones. It works real nice, especially if you wipe the wax off with a terry towel then come back with a clean microfiber towel. The S100 on my sister's miata (black) works real nice and doesn't leave streaks/swirls. Believe it or not, the Black Magic on a black car also doesn't leave swirls/streaks...if you rub hard enough - but that goes for all of them. Hope that hhelps

My black beauty has been treated with Mothers clay, big difference.
