Cigarette Trim Removal?

I have searched on this!

I have a boost gauge that was installed by a previous owner but it looks like the electrical wires have been disconnected for some reason?? I suspect that they were previously wired to the cigarette lighter but im not sure! I started into taking the trim pieces off so that I could get a better look at what was done before and have so far manged to get the lower trim piece off (the bit that has the heater vent on it) and now need to get more trim off so I can complete the job.

Can anyone give me any advice/help on how to get the rest of the trim off, if I could get away with only removing the trim surrounding the cigarette lighter that would be great but somehow I dont think it will be that simple!!

A detailed "how to" on wiring a gauge up to the cigarette lighter would be great but I couldnt find much on that...

Any help greatly appreciated!!

Easiest way is to yank off the gauge cluster and surrounding hood.

If you have the lower pieces off...

1. take off the hub behind the steering wheel - 3 screws on the lower portion.
2. take off the vent or side dash piece which rests against the door
3. place your hands on top of the gauge hood and yank backwards.

This will allow the gauge cluster and hood to separate from the dash enough for you to see what's connected to the cigarette lighter.

If you need more room, remove the gauge cluster / hood completely by disconnecting all the connectors behind it. They're fairly easy to get off and lucky enough all different sizes so you don't need to worry to much about which one is which.

I was hoping to not have to start pulling out gauge clusters and the like...there must be a simpler way of hooking up a boost gauge to the light circuit...I am not really that experienced with cars and dont want to make a balls of anything.

What is the most simplistic way of getting at the light circuit and connecting the gauge electrics ie a noob proof way??:sadwavey:

The cig lighter is pretty easy, pulling out the cluster just sounds hard - once you do it you'll understand its quite easy...

Ok maybe ill try that then....bye the way I do not have all the lower trim off, just the bit that connects to the heater ie the bigge bit.

I do not have the lower bit under the cig lighter off yet and it looks like it might be linked with the centre console??

My car is a Jap but im sure its the same as yours only reversed!!
