Chopping airbox
is this mod worthwhile for an otherwise stock car with a downpipe, stock main cat and rear section?
I see the space between the chassis and the radiator they're talking about, but i'd rather not go hacking up my airbox if it's not worth it... thanks |
The short answer is yes, its worth it.
Do a search on airbox mod. |
i read the thread but a lot of the pictures and stuff are missing, is the idea to simply cut the box and use sheetmetal so you don't suck up hot air from the radiator?

ah good link, makes it a bit more clear...

damn Adam C where are you?
Do a search under Adam C for Cheap bastard Air Box he sells them and from the reading I have done they are great. |
^^ or you could figure out a design and make it yourself. It really isn't that hard to do. It took me ~2 hours to cut the box and design a shield (I'm guessing its similar to adam c's design).

You could do your own airbox mod, or you could save yourself the time and aggravation by spending $70 (cheap) on my mod. Here's a link: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/cheap-stock-airbox-mod-121491/ I spent a lot of time designing this. Then I made several changes to improve the design. If you buy the current kit, you get something that has been proven to work, and something that has been refined over more than 2 years. You don't get that if you make your own. Did I mention that $70 is cheap :) |
Hey BoostFrenzy. I did the Adam C airbox mod and my car is stock. I still have the precat and it made a big improvement over stock. check out my post.

$70 includes the K&N dropin?
|
No. the 70.00 is for the kit only. you need to purchase the K&N. still Its cheeper than a new after market intake kit and you get a true cold intake system when your done. plus you still look stock at the smog test.
|
Well I don't have emissions here, but uhm... can I see a picture of what *IS* included? i'm simply not paying $70 for a piece of bent up sheetmetal that keeps air from hitting the holes I make in the airbox....
The beauty of the car is it's not maf based like all my other turbo cars therefore the intake can be as you see fit to improve flow/reduce heat, I guess i'll just chop my box and make a shield as to reduce cost/time Throw in the K&N and i'll pay 70-80$ shipped (isn't making ~20$ on a piece of sheetmetal enough?) if not, that's cool... i never been one of those guys to consider a $200+ intake in the first place |
Just installed my CBM intake and it works great. I did see an increase in boost pressure by about 1 psi. Thanks Adam

hey when you pay 4500$ for the car and have 3 other cars, cheap is the only option, this is my "summer beater" if you will ;)
