Checking for a possible boost leak

W/O opening up the hood and looking for a slit or cut in a hose or line of some sort, what are some signs of a boost leak? Can a leak damage anything if left alone? What is a leak generally caused by? (how do i no if i have 1----SOUNDS? SMELLS? LIQUIDS? WHAT?)

this is easy! after you warm up your car, go WOT in netural to redline and see if you can get 4psi boost. if you can you dont got a leak :)

umm ok well what about if theres a problem with a hose for his second turbo?

any way a better way to diagnose a leak is to see if you have the proper stock boost pattern of 10-8-10

a leak will cause the turbos to overspool if you have a boost controller and you have a leak then the turbos will have to work a ton harder to make 10psi or whatever you have it set to depending on the size of the leak. they may have to make 15psi for your engine to recieve 10 of that...this is bad

a really easy way to find a leak is to block off the 2 intake pipes with tennis balls. Take off the air filter and block the air flow with a ball...car off of course. Then where your boost gauge hooks up on the upper intake manifold put the air compressor on that nipple and pressurize the system. Now air has nowhere to exit except for the place where the leak is

This is the easiest way, and is cited in the '93 Rx7 factory service manual.
